Gordon's Alive!

If it turns out to be a hoax, they'll say, "Tricked you, fandom!"

Here, I guess. http://rt.com/news/235519-ornella-muti-jail-putin/ That's what you get for having dinner with the bore worms. One could argue that the dinner was for a charity event and more important than the play, but she did make a commitment to the theater. Either way, it's better than being blown into atoms.
Oh, okay. That's a bit different than what I imagined. Namely, Ornella Muti being jailed by Putin for some political infraction. :rommie:

i'm 42, and a Flash Gordon fan (especially the Filmation series, the movie, and the 2nd 1/2 of the SyFy version)...but i immediately thought James Gordon -- not because of Gotham, since he's the star of it. But of Batman Vs. Superman...i thought i saw rumors that said Gordon was dead by the time of this middle age Batman.

But back to the point...i am interested in the new Flash Gordon...i wouldn't mind a RE-MAKE, but one that gave some shout outs to the movie.

And what OTHER role could Brian Blessed play? He definitley needs at least a cameo!

I loved the Filmation cartoon as a kid, and have it on DVD now.

Sure, I'd be interested to see a sequel to the 1980 Flash Gordon movie.

And yes, Brian Blessed smoked the role of Vultan

"That must be one hell of a planet you men come from!"

Flash: Biro's down! I'm going in after him!
Vultan: Impetuous boy! Ah, well! Who wants to live forever? DIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!!

I've always loved this version of Flash Gordon, since seeing it first run in the theater. I'm interested in a sequel, but I'm not holding my breath.

So 35 years down the line...Did Flash Gordon and company make it back to Earth? Or are they still somewhere in Mongo? Did Ming stay dead? (hardly). Baron likely had problems over the decades keeping the peace that Ming so expetly keeps via an iron fist and keeping the princes at each other's throats.

Is Deep Roy still a pet?

Dispatch war rocket ajax to bring back his sequel.

That post just made me laugh. I need a like button!

At least in 1980 Flash was a pro quarterback. For the Jets. That could actually win games...

It really was a fantasy movie!

Ok.OK. I can see how most folks thought this was a Gotham thing. Guess I still live too much in my childhood  I just instantly recognized the thread title as a line from the film.
Unlike Klytus' men, I don't think I'm taking the right pills

(I'm really enjoying how many people here are figuring out how to fold lines from the film into their posts)

If they can't get Queen to come back, maybe Daft Punk can do something with Flash like they did for Tron?

You are not the only one, I heard Vultan's voices before I even finished reading the title!

I don't even know how to feel, I was dying for the sequel in 1980, The End ????? right! With Ming laughing as he picks up his ring.

I listen to the soundtrack about once a month, so I don't know if I'd like a new one without Queen, and they seem to be at half staff. I really don't want to hear Adam Lambert or Paul
Rogers trying to sing Flash!

So as much as I love the original, I just don't know.

I think it might be OK if they tried to make something somewhat like Guardians of the Galaxy. I think if they try to go back to the 1980 movie that they are going to miss the boat.

While I absolutely love the look of the film. The colors, the art-deco set designs, the 30's style spaceships, and yes, the European cast. It's also one of my guilty pleasures.

The only thing that spoiled it was the two American leads and all the intentionally cringe-worthy lines they were given. I know they were supposed to be funny, but they just made me squirm.

I went to a lecture and Q&A with Mike Hodges, followed by a screening of the movie last year, it was very informative. He called it the most expensive improvised movie ever made and said they had no idea what they would be doing when they turned up some days as the set building and makeup departments were so disorganised nothing was ever ready, so they would just make up scenes based on whatever they had to hand.

He also cleared up the various stories around the redubbing of Flash's dialogue, saying that they only replaced about 25% of it with an impersonator and most of it is really Jones.

He seemed a little bemused by the attention the film still gets to this day, and I think a little irritated that he isn't remembered for much more successful and decent films he made like Get Carter & Croupier.

Personally, as a huge fan of the original and of Queen, i'd rather just see a new take on it. This movie is a historical quirk of the movie industry, and a happy accident that it ended up so much fun, or even makes sense. They should probably leave it to stand as something truly unique. But, if they don't, no doubt i'll be first in line for the sequel.

That's a shame to hear. I thought they did an incredible job on it. Personally I was always puzzled that they didn't at least get an Oscar nom for Production, Set, or Costume Design.

Yeah, that's too bad. You'd think he'd be pleased that he helped to create something that people love. I know I'm always surprised by the things I do that make the biggest impression on people, but I'm always delighted.

It's funny to know how much improvisation went on. Reminds me of how Casablanca came to be. :rommie:

That's not uncommon in the entertainment industry, you might not be remembered for what you want to be remembered for it, be it a film or a part in a film.

I found 'Get Carter' to be pretty damn memorable though. 'Flash Gordon' is fun nerd pop culture but his masterpiece is Carter.

I love the '80 Flash Gordon movie and I hope this sequel happens, without Star Wars Fox needs a new tentpole movie series.
