Gordon's Alive!

Saul

It's almost exactly a year since we last heard anything about the new Flash Gordon currently developing at Fox. Speaking to 1980's Flash and recent Ted star Sam Jones, however, Den Of Geek have quietly picked up a possible scoop. They've chosen not to trumpet it, probably because it sounds, if not ridiculous, then hugely unlikely. But according to Jones himself, the Fox Flash Gordon is not a reboot or a remake, but a possible sequel.

I don't care how shit this will be. I want to see it.

Well the 80's Flash Gordon movie cross the line from bad to it's so bad it's good. But do we want a sequel to it or a reimagining of the story, not to say they shouldn't borrow elelemnts of the 80's film.

The last time we had a reimagining Flash was a loser who lived with his mom. I say bring on da sequel.

At least in 1980 Flash was a pro quarterback. For the Jets. That could actually win games...

If they're going this route, then they need to include Brian Blessed and have the surviving members of Queen at least work on the soundtrack.

If Sam Jones makes an appearance he'll probably glad Dino Delaurentis isn't around to fire him and have some-one else dub his lines.

and I thought this thread was about Jim Gordon on Gotham.

You must be a youngster. Anyone here who is around my age (46) knew IMMEDIATELY what this was about. :)
Ornella Muti is still looking pretty good but she'll have to be sprung from the joint if she's to appear. (long story- Vladimir Putin is involved)

^I also assumed it was about Jim Gordon from the title, and I'm 45. I watch Gotham, so seeing just the last name on this board with no other context, that's the first thing I thought of.

People don't usually refer to Flash Gordon as just "Gordon".

In the Movie (and spliced into one of the Queen songs that lots of airplay) is a quizzical line "Gordon's Alive!"

Although, I hear it got better later in the season, I was horrified at what they had done to Flash Gordon in the SyFy TV Series, on the first two or three episodes I watched before giving up on it.

I hope, they don't have to update it much, I'm not sure I'd like a Flash Gordon Project with all the cheese removed and deadly serious and graphic . A Guardians of the Galaxy tone should suit it well for my tastes as far as updating it.

I must be of he correct mindset to get that this was about Flash Gordon based only on known a Brian Blessed quote from the film.

Camp to be camp. And it worked (more or less). Plus going the extra step and getting Queen to do the music for extra camp. Yet excellently done.

i'm 42, and a Flash Gordon fan (especially the Filmation series, the movie, and the 2nd 1/2 of the SyFy version)...but i immediately thought James Gordon -- not because of Gotham, since he's the star of it. But of Batman Vs. Superman...i thought i saw rumors that said Gordon was dead by the time of this middle age Batman.

But back to the point...i am interested in the new Flash Gordon...i wouldn't mind a RE-MAKE, but one that gave some shout outs to the movie.

And what OTHER role could Brian Blessed play? He definitley needs at least a cameo!

When the 80s Flash Gordon came out, I disliked the over-the-top campiness quite a bit. I've been a huge Flash Gordon fan since discovering the comic strip in the 60s and then finding the original serials playing late at night on Channel 56. But, over the years, as movies and TV became increasingly duller and grittier, I've come to like the movie a lot. I'd love to see a colorful, upbeat Flash Gordon movie, even if they play up the camp. They should even call it Gordon's Alive. :D

Okay, I'll have to Google that. :cardie:

Here, I guess. http://rt.com/news/235519-ornella-muti-jail-putin/ That's what you get for having dinner with the bore worms. One could argue that the dinner was for a charity event and more important than the play, but she did make a commitment to the theater. Either way, it's better than being blown into atoms.

I knew what the title meant but only because I've seen reports about this proposed sequel on other sites over the last week or two. (Of course, it could well have been someone riffing on the dialogue from Flash Gordon but referring to Gotham)

I'm somewhat sceptical about the story though. I like the 1980 movie, it's a great guilty pleasure movie and every time it comes on tv, I end up watching it to the end. It helps that I'm a big Queen fan, obviously. But it's hardly an all-time classic nor the definitive take on Flash Gordon. I don't see this as in any way being comparable to, for example, Hamill, Ford and Fisher returning for a Star Wars sequel. I find it hard to see a major movie being greenlit to star Sam J Jones (who must be pushing 60 now). A direct-to-DVD or stream movie, sure but not a big budget epic.

Honestly, I'd much rather see a new take on the classic comic strips. I've no doubt one will come along sooner or later - I'm surprised they never made one to coincide with the Star Wars prequels, for example. I don't want a dark and gritty one but I'd like one a little less OTT than the 1980 version.

Ok.OK. I can see how most folks thought this was a Gotham thing. Guess I still live too much in my childhood  I just instantly recognized the thread title as a line from the film.
Unlike Klytus' men, I don't think I'm taking the right pills

(I'm really enjoying how many people here are figuring out how to fold lines from the film into their posts)

If they can't get Queen to come back, maybe Daft Punk can do something with Flash like they did for Tron?
