Google images

K'Ehleyr

Commodore
Commodore
So I was looking for a new av and went to 'google images' and found myself under 'K'Ehleyr'.

Not just my last 3 avs but a pic of myself and one of my cat. There was also a random goat, a girl on a pony and a naked man in this search :wtf: ~ I have no relation to any of the latter

I'm under the impression that anything on the net is 'fair game' ~ if you post it, it is out there, so I'm not whinging about the photos being there, I was just a little surprised to see it.

Has anybody else tried this?

Are they found from TBBS or photobucket? I just find it quite bizarre :wtf:

Yes, the same thing holds true for my other username. The more you use the same name the more things build up. I for one will now make my photobucket private.

Ahh, so that's how they've got out, thank you. But I'm sure I haven't put my cat under that name

Photobucket is also sending me the mobile upload bit which I don't use ~ any advice on that?

Thanks Sub R.

I occasionally see one of my Photoshop pics pop up on Google Images when searching for new stuff (similar keywords and all that). I only post them here, as the URL of the pic shows. Usually. Every now and then I'll see one of mine that's hosted somewhere else...

When I google my username, I get old avatars, pix I've posted here, and other TBBSers avatars and pic posts.

So they can be got from here too?
Again, I'm aware anything that I post is free game, I can't nag as I use other peoples pics for my av, but I'm just intrigued as why and how they find them.

There should be some sort of 'switch to non-mobile' button. Took me a while to find it.

Privacy settings didn't seem to stop google from using thumbnails though. And even deleting stuff didn't help. Its pretty creepy to be honest.

Someone Googles for something, and one or more of the hits leads here. I blame Googles' search algorithms. :D

My impression is that everything on the internet re: social media (which I regard forums as being part of) is fair game unless kept strictly private. I've always worked under old adage that shouldn't put anything online you wouldn't want family/friends/loved ones to know :)

That's the handy thing about using a name that has a large internet presence outside of me - trampledamage is associated with Magic the Gathering, so anything of mine is buried within all of that. Although my elephant and several Karl Urban pics do come up first :D

My real name is the same - there's someone out there who is, well not famous, but important in their subject area that has heaps of web-sites and books so anything about me is buried in there too.

That was interesting. I hadn't thought about that hack I made for Metroid in a long time but apparently it's still out there.

My cat avatar and my Fark profile are the two first links on Google, I find that extremely appropriate.

I have a very generic username. Most of the hits in Google images are of Carl Sagan (due to J. Allen Hynek), or some music composer named J. Allen, so I'm fine. In fact, the only image that was associated with me, came up way down the long list of images, and it's the Hugh Laurie pic in a DS9 uniform that I photoshopped. That's it.

Well, when you search for Eyes, a lot of results about me come up. ;)

Nah, seriously, I used to add 330 after my name, and on a google web search for Eyes330, which is slightly more productive for the purposes of this thread, obscure as that is, I'm not even the first result. I'm about the 3rd result, on another forum. And on images, the first few images are of good-looking men (I'm not joking. A good proportion of my images come from 'hunkforo.com'), some weird 'wedding' photo, owls, a webcomic, before you get to my avatars across the 'net.
Then there's things from my photobucket, before it descends into manga and more hunks.

Not sure I understand google on that one. The only thing I can think of is that the pictures have 330 as one of their dimensions.

The first picture is my avatar, and the vast majority of the other pictures are from TrekBBS as well. Interestingly, someone has the same exact username as me on Memory Alpha...I thought the name was somewhat unique but I guess not!

When I Google my username, a ton of random photos from people's family albums come up, but not my av.

A Google Images search for "Shatnertage" turns up:

My last 2 avatars (but not, unfortunately, the ram from The Day the Goose Got Loose)

Kate Mulgrew as Shannon O'Donnell, in the snow

Suzie Plakson

Nearly-shirtless Patrick Stewart

Caveman Riker

Chase Masterson, wearing only a jacket

Lots of other people's avatars

As much as I like Google and apprecitate what it can let me do, like Lurok I find it a bit creepy *goes onto google maps to see if they have a photo of me sunbathing outside my place *

And I agree, and mostly remember, never to put anything up I don't want to be common knowledge :shifty: That's why facebook is a bitch now most of my co workers are on there, and my Son

When I googled Miss Chicken there were 17 pages of photos that I could stroll down before I would have had to click on the Show More Results button.

My Trekbbs avatar came up on page one, as did two of my Flickr photos of the real Miss Chicken.

None of my pictures were on the second page.

On the third page there was a photo of mine that had been lifted from Flickr by Suite 101.com. It was under the heading "Find Ancestors - 1900 & 1910 US Federal Census" so it seems a little odd that they used an old photo of an Australian couple (my great-great uncle and his wife). There was also another photo of the real Miss Chicken on the third page.

One the subsequent pages there were many more of my photos most of them from Flickr but also some photos I have posted on Trekbbs (including one that I posted when I wanted people to help me select a rubber ducky to buy). All the Trekbbs photos are via my Photobucket site.

Of the Flickr photos most of them are either of the real Miss Chicken or are the illustrations of the children's book illustrator Libico Maraja. I have several books of his and I take photos of the pictures and post them to Flickr where they are among my most popular photos.

There is also a Flickr photo, that was taken many years ago, of my son having physiotherapy. The picture is credited to me (as Miss Chicken) and is being used on a parenting site in an article titled Popular Cerebral Palsy Treatments.
