Goode Family (New Mike Judge Cartoon)

So who watched the premiere of Mike Judge's new animated series THE GOODE FAMILY on ABC tonight? Mike Judge is the guy behind Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill. This show is the antithesis of King of the Hill in that it starts a hippie eco-nut left wing family.

I really enjoyed the pilot and would say it's immediately on the level of KOTH. There were several big laughs and it's an amusing premise. I particularly loved the "vegan" dog who prowls the neighborhood murdering and eating all other animals in the vicinity :D And their fat white son "Ubutu" because he's adopted from South Africa is pretty funny as well.

It's unfortunate they're airing this show in the summer which means it will ineviably be canceled before its time. Sigh. WTF.

ya know, I don't ever watch ABC or disney, so I didn't even know Judge was doing a show for them

Sadly, I saw it. One laugh and two slight chuckles during the 22 minute episode. And when a third of the episode is spent with the dad and daughter discussing his marrying her, it's just not my thing.

I'm not certain I see the difference between this and King of the Hill. Neither was very amusing. Does Mike Judge remember what the word "comedy" means?

It's the subtle comedy of social parody and awkwardness. I thought the bit where the daughter gives her "virginity" to her father very horrible and funny :p And how bout the angry blood-stained pulsing vision of the dog looking at neighborhood animals desperate to kill and eat them? Classic!

As a Fan of King of the Hill I liked the Goode Family (I would loved for them to be Hank's neighbors.)..but I'm afraid I don't think it'll last...no big network prime-time animated series unless it's on FOX on Sunday night and is made by Seth MacFarlane will make it.

Lame.

It's almost exactly like KIng of the Hill but for the eco-friendly. Hell, even the house is designed the same and same color.

Does Mike Judge know how to make a character then isn't neurotic?

I thought it was a bit of shooting-fish-in-a-barrel where the humor was concerned - there's not much one can do to freshen up the schtick about a White Liberal who can't keep up with the evolving PC descriptions for minority groups - but there were suggestions of the kind of subtle empathy that Judge brings to otherwise broad stereotypes. I'll be sticking with this one to see what develops.
