Goodbye from the STARTREK.COM Team

Sadly, we must report that CBS Interactive organization is being restructured, and the production team that brings you the STARTREK.COM site has been eliminated. Effective immediately.

We don't know the ultimate fate of this site, which has served millions of Star Trek fans for the last thirteen years.

If you have comments, please send them to editor @ startrek.com - we hope someone at CBS will read them.

Thank you for your loyal fandom over the years. It has been a pleasure to serve you.

Seems odd that they'd phase out the site when a major motion picture is in the works but I can't say that I, personally, will miss the site. I've probably visited it a few dozen times at most over my almost ten years online.

Sucks for those that visit it more often, though.

Anyone know if fan run Trek related sites plans to update fans on the schedule for Star Trek: The Tour? I'd like to go see this and it really sucks that the only place I know of that would do this is now being closed.

Wow this doesnt make any sense. Why would they fire everyone at startrek.com when there is a new Startrek movie coming out soon?? I hope they dont shut down the site completly. There is alot of good information from the last 10+ years stored there. In fact just the other day I was using the site to find the name of a DS9 episode. Not only did I find the name of the episode but the site told me what DVD the episode was on so I then was able to rent that disc on netflix.

They are probably going to just make some intern keep it up or give it to some young guy who already does sites for them or something.

I'm sure, with a new Trek property coming out, it's about wanting more direct control of the site as a marketing conduit. For the past few years the staff has execrcised more and more creative and content control themselves until it's become a sort of Trek magazine that reflects their personalities as well as the wishes of first Paramount and then CBS. With the new film due in a year they're going to want to dedicate the URL to that film and marginalize other older Trek product. They won't want the fanbase split with some of us waxing nostalgic for what was instead of concentrating on their new product.

Man, this sucks, because I still go to the site a couple times a week to keep up to date on their news stories, and to check out stuff for TOSR. That and I still watch alot of the previews for the episodes that are going to be on Spike or Sci-Fi in the near future.

I simply won't go to that site anymore because of their overwhelming use of that program. Fuck it.

The way they'e let the inmates rule the asylem at the boards there the last couple of years i say good riddance to bad rubbish .

The main site was a good resource for fans , but the boards were a disgrace

Unfortunately the trend still seems to be for movie marketing sites to load up on more and more flash. We can probably expect, any week now, to have to wait through one of those "loading" progress bars and an animation of the movie logo before getting to choose from some overdesigned "interface" just to see a publicity still or play a trailer.

It's a shame it's being closed down. I confess to not having used the "library" on the site for several years now (not since before the last redesign I think) but the "behind Star Trek" features were extremely interesting and "The Trek Life" is great.

It's a pity those people have been laid off just before Christmas. Still, I'd imagine with "StarTrek.com" on their CVs they won't have trouble getting new jobs. And, yeah, I agree with the other posters about the crappy flash promo site that will inevitably take its place.

I haven't been to the site in ages. I do like the site alot though. I've looked around that place and it had great stuff and great information we needed to know. I use to join as as a regular member there on that site but forgot about that since....that was years ago though when I did that.

Watch for it to get outsourced to India. In just a few months, Manheer from Bombay will be bringing you new very exciting news from trek to a star show tv series.
