Good uses for bad Trek discoveries

and wondered how deadly tech and discoveries in Trek could be used for the common good.

There's probably no denying that if the power of the Omega molecule (in itself an extremely dangerous explosive that also destroys subspace over a wide region) could ever be safely harnessed, that'd be an awesome technology. Getting from the (late 24th century) federation level of energy technology to harnessing Omega power would probably be an equally great advance as getting from today's technology to the Federation's level, if not greater.
