Good as ...or nearly as good as Star Trek

JesterFace

Fleet Captain
Commodore
What other programs than Star Trek, in any of its form, are close to your heart?

My alltime favorite program is ST - The Next Generation, however, the 1st season of 24 comes very close. I don't care for the rest of 24, but like The Next Generation, 1st season of 24 is special to me.

Other honorary mentions:
Friends
Futurama
Men Behaving Badly, UK version
Fast Show

I'll keep mine limited to sci fi TV shows, and I rank Star Trek shows like this:

1. TOS/TNG: Tie
2. DS9
3. Voyager
4. Enterprise (though sometimes I like Enterprise better than Voyager)

As for sci fi shows, using Star Trek TNG/TOS as my favorite shows of all time, and how I feel other sci fi stacks up
Stargate SG1: about equal to TOS/TNG
Stargate Atlantis: about equal to Voyager
Stargate Universe: about equal to Enterprise
Babylon 5: about equal to DS9
BSG (original): less than Enterprise
BSG (reboot): before season 3 at least as good as DS9/ after season 3, about equal to Voyager
Caprica: about equal to Enterprise
Serenity: about equal to Enterprise
Dr. Who (starting in the 2000s): don't watch. From what I have seen, not interested.

Since this is more about shows other than Trek...and a general interest in Trek might be taken as a given on the Trek BBS...it seems like this one belongs in TV & Media.

Any of the Batman shows (except for Gotham)
Any of the Star Wars shows
Babylon 5
Buck Rogers
Battlestar Galactica (1978, not that.........other one)

I was just watching the Ian McShane popsicle episode last night. Two questions here:
* Does Barbara Bain's acting on this show make you laugh?
* Would you say ''Dragon's Domain'', or the space octopus episode, is the best?
Bain had a sedate style, especially in season one. Never laughed, just wondered what the directors said to her.
"Dragon's Domain" is the best. It looks as though it could have inspired both Alien(1979) and Aliens(1986). Both Tony Cellini and Ripley were on a mission that encounter an unknown alien in a derelict spaceship and lost their entire crew when it got aboard their spaceship. Both Tony Cellini and Ripley escaped the alien in their spaceship's lifeboat/shuttlecraft and are recovered on their way back to Earth. Since no one on Earth believes there was an alien monster both Tony Cellini and Ripley are discredited. So, both Tony Cellini and Ripley returned to the original location of the derelict alien ship to face the alien.

So it's series that are really special, like Star Trek? I think I only have a couple.

Orphan Black - Mainly because it introduced me to who is now my favorite actress working in TV today

Farscape - It has my favorite relationship story I've ever seen on screen. Most relationship developments are lame, but the stuff with John and Aeryn was so well written and didn't detract from either character that it really makes that series special. That, and everything else basically.

Most special because of so many feelings...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Xena: Warrior Princess
Doctor Who (series 5-7)
Galavant
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Scream Queens

Even though it's technically not a tv show, I'm adding Carmilla.
