Gonna bust my ENT cherry soon.

Is Jeff Combs gonna keep coming back as that Andorian character? Kathy loved Weyoun and we're both really happy to see him again. (Loving the moving antennae too!).
Jeff Combs lovers will be happy campers. :D And yes, the antennae rock, don't they?

When I first saw the moving antennae, I actually squealed with delight.

Please do keep checking in, and let us know how your viewing experience is going!

I almost spit up when Reed was drunk in Shuttle pod One and and started talking a bout T'pol's bum. :guffaw:

Rabittooth, Shuttlepod One is one of my fave eps because it establishes a bond between Tucker and Reed. Being a Niner, I felt that DS9 had the best male friendship of any series in Bashir and O'Brien. The attempt on VOY to recreate such a chemistry between Kim and Paris fell flat. The friendship between Tucker and Reed doesn't top DS9, IMO, but it succeeds a lot more than VOY. If you liked Shuttlepod One for this reason, I think you will enjoy future eps that deal with Tucker and Reed (or, as I liked to refer to them, with the utmost affection, gigolos in space).

Just like Kathy, I loved Weyoun in DS9. I had already enjoyed his portrayals of both Weyoun and Brunt, so when I found out he was on ENT, I questioned how he could portray another species. Well, he delivers! I never really cared for the Andorians in TOS, but Combs' portrayal of Shran made me love them. And, yeah, the antennae rock! Best of all, my husband and I bought our photo op tickets for Jeffrey Combs for the convention in Vegas, and we are so psyched!

HopefulRomantic, I LOVE your avatar!!! Porthos was one of my fave things about ENT. I thought it was such a cute touch! I loved how his little paws would pitter patter as he walked around the ship. What an awesome pic!

"Brunt! FCA!" Body Parts is one of my favorite DS9 eps. :D I loved how the Trek casting folks kept going back to Jeff Combs again and again, so when he turned up as Shran, I was thrilled to pieces.

Thank you! I adore Porthos, and I've made a pile of avatars with him. Most of them are kinda spoilery, but here's one I love that's safe for Rabittooth...

Yeah...we're both really enjoying the character development. We even talked about how we hoped there would be an O'Brien-Bashir type bond between Reed and Trip! We're Niners too and starting to see the seeds of some very cool similarities. I hope they develop poor Travis more though...so far he seems to be getting the Harry Kim treatment as far as development.
Porthos! Kathy couldn't concentrate on the story when the Ferengi put Porthos in a case in Acquisition. She kept worrying that he couldn't breathe in there. :rommie: Great to see Mr. Combs yet again in that episode too.
The show seems awesome. Can anyone tell me, without spoilers, why the heck it got canceled? I always assumed it was because it was so different from the rest of Trek that even the fans abandoned it, but it's not just Trek...seems like damned good Trek to me! Were the ratings that bad?

I like scenes with Trip and Malcolm and think you always look for those little type of bonds. And I am a DS niner in fact TNT started from the beginning eps at 2:00 a.m.; and loved Julian and Miles they were great; amazing how that friendship grew from nothing to something fun to watch.

And why cancelled I think it was ratings and cost at least thats what actors have said in interviews. But don't quote me on that :)

Well the show was advertised and hyped by UPN and Braga & Berman as being something fresh and different. But it didn't quite feel that way. Season one was alright but it didn't feel new and fresh. A lot of the stories were ones we had seen on the other Trek series.

But what really hurt ENT was season two where it seemed like the season was one long streak of mediocre episodes. They weren't bad just not very interesting and the characters were not that interesting. That isn't to say it didn't have some good episodes but they were few and far between. People felt that instead of being the first two years of a new series it was seasons 8 and 9 of a very tired Voyager.

While season three rejuvenated the series by then it was too little, too late. Also I remember reading that UPN didn't really see ENT fitting into its target demographic of young urban female viewers and its line-up of shows. Plus it was its most expensive series to produce.

It was cancelled for a variety of reasons:

1) Les Monvies felt it didn't attract the right demographic (UPN was wanting to attract 'young girls' as he felt that was a Demo that no station yet tried to cater to).

2) It was VERY expensive to produce.

3) Even Paramount felt that after 18 years (and 23 TV seasons) of the modern Star Trek spinoff series; they had more then enough episodes across the Star Trek spectrum to make a profit off everything. Also, with the mergers going on within it's Parent company (Viacom) at the time; a lot of Paramount executives who had favorable attitudes to the 'Star Trek Franchise' as a whole were shifted to other areas, or let go as part of the mergers.

4) After Season for they had 98 episodes of Enterprise 'in the can' and since the magic number for 'stripped' (aka once daily) syndication packages is 100 or so; they had enough to see a return on their investment (Of course with ENT being the only Star Trek series in native HD format - it probably would have made syndication with way less episodes anyway).

So, it's a variety of things. Ratings also were a small factor, but given it was usually the second highest rated UPN show (after WWE wrestling); and if often suffered from local sports events pre-emption - and the fact that, at the time, UPN only covered 78% of the U.S. (and many of those stations were low powered UHF stations that put out a crappy signal); the 'because ratings sucked and no one was watching anymore' excuse comes more from the disgruntled Star Trek fans who hated the show because it wasn't yet another 24th or 25th century era show.

That sucks.
What a bout poor Travis? Does he develop at all as a character? He's like plain toast right now.

-Rabittooth

travis does get one episode thats all about him. It's called "Horizon" and it's in season 2.

Just wanted to add my views to the mix.

First time around I only got to see about 5 or 6 episodes of season 1 of Enterprise during its initial run here in Australia. My interest waned - I don't know why.

But now I have picked up the DVD and just finished the 1st season - and I gotta say I am really enjoying it (as a background my series order of favourites would be DS9, TNG, TOS, VOY - doesn't mean I didn't like VOY just not as much as the others).

I really enjoyed The Andorian Incident, Shuttlepod One, Acquisition (nice approach to the Ferengi), Fallen Hero and Shockwave (in fact I think this was an excellent cliffhanger for a first season).

Overall I have enjoyed the arcs (that would be in Niner in me) - the development of the Vulcans intrigues me.

I am looking to seeing how much better (or worse!) the following seasons are.

As for the finale - I will watch it. But I think I might follow the advice of watching Terra Prime last.

Well...we just finished Season 2 and have started 3.
We're both really happy and are really enjoying the series alot. :bolian:
Really digging how serious and dark Archer is becoming now that the fate of Earth is in his hands.
We were surprised at how the opening theme, which was already a bit goofy for a Trek series ,seems to have gotten a little added silliness with the more upbeat guitar strumming and the percussion.:cardie:
And...ok...here's another question. I'm sure there are folks here who believe T'pols boobs get too much attention to begin with, but I gotta ask.
Did they get smaller, or is it me? Is it a change in wardrobe, or did she downsize at the surgeon's office?
Don't get me wrong...she looks more like an actual person and less like a rubber blow-up doll this way...but there almost certainly seems like there's a change there. :alienblush:
We're loving all the Episodes alot. Kathy is hoping for an all Porthos episode, but I'm not sure they could pull that off unless they just shot it from his point of view a-la-M*A*S*H, if you get my meaning.
I see the continuity problems a bit more than Kathy does, but it does seem like they tried to keep it down to a minimum.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW FOR ANYONE BEHIND ME AND IN THE SAME BOAT...

The Borg thing most of all. And...regarding that...I'm afraid to delve too far into threads about ENT cause I don't want big spoilers, but are we essentially looking at a revised timeline here because of the destroyed Borg ship?

Kathy and I are still having a blast and we watch whenever we get the chance. Thanks to everyone here who are helping to make the experience even better. :techman:

Well I think it is meant to be the same timeline as the one where TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY occur but Brannon seemed to imply that there was enough room for fans to interpret events in several ways.

I guess you have not seen the "Q" episode yet where Archer is asked to join the Continuum, wipes out the Borg effect, and then has his mind wiped as he is tossed from the Continuum for meddling with the time lines. ;)

prepare to:

-find it better than most fanatics of older series think

- klingons are sissies

- see a certain character, trip tucker to remind of a young george double you bush.

- the captain is a weak character

- the translator is a weak character

- the vulcan is a great character

- the doctor is THE BEST doctor

-whatever edit: + vulcans as a whole are very 'unpleasant', however, it does have a point (more primitive state, etc.), + the 3rd series is a masterpiece if watched all in a row.

Generally is a MUCH BETTER series than the fanatics of TNG say, even if I think TNG is the best trek ever conceived.

Well it may not answer all your Borg/ENT related questions, but there is always the infamous Sussman Responds To Cogley! thread which answers some of the questions about the episode from one of the writers themselves.

And of course the original review thread (no longer on this board) at Regeneration Review Sam was never what you would call a fan of the show but his reviews are pretty entertaining.
