Going through an odd transitional period.

In about two weeks I'll be moving into a new place, and I'm going through a strange disconnect right now. Knowing that I'll be out of this apartment in two weeks it no longer feels like home for me. And yet, the place I'm moving into (while I've been over there several times to hang out with my new roommate) doesn't quite feel like home either.

It's a real odd feeling, and...well I'm not really sure how to end this post, but it's just a really odd transitional period of my life.

Just wait until you are almost divorced. Or almost a parent. Or almost taking on a crushing 30 year mortgage. Or almost going to get married.

IOW, many transitional phases in life will soon eclipse a thing like moving.

I'm just moving a few miles North from where I live now. I'll actually be within walking distance from my job, so my gas costs will go down to nothing...with the exception of trips to see my folks.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven

Enjoy what lies ahead, in far too short of a time it will all be what was, or what could have been.

I was working as an intern somewhere and about a month before the internship ended I applied for a full time position with the company and was rejected (despite almost everyone there actually believing and hoping that I would get the job). That was a real fun month, knowing that I wasn't really wanted there (at least by the guys in charge) and would be unemployed soon. Quite difficult to be a productive employee and not become bitter in that situation. My replacement also started work that month, which made it all feel worse. Luckily I didn't have to meet the person who got the position I wanted.

How long have you been in your current apartment?

I've moved to a new place 11 times since I started college, so moving doesn't really phase me anymore.

Enjoy the excitement! :) And maybe take the time to make a few changes you've always thought might be fun.

I've moved 10, so I'm almost caught up.

Yeah, moving - stressful for a few days, but otherwise a nonevent at this point.

I love my current house, and I am finally thinking that I am comfortable living in this area for a long time, so hopefully I won't have to move again until I am ready to buy my own place.

After this last move, my pulled muscles made me swear I'd never move again...but now I'm only 3 months into my current place, and I'm already fantasizing about where to go next.

We have been in our home for 10 years. It is a good feeling to have people say, "I've known him for 10 years and he's a great guy." Growing up we moved almost every year... I hated it. My dream was to be somewhere long enough to make lasting friends.

I've been here for about two years, it's nice because I enjoy the area. Not to say I don't like the area where I'm moving to as well, it's just different now, doesn't feel like home yet (for obvious reasons).

I'm surprisingly okay with moving across the country in a few months. I was really sad for the first few days but my fellow TBBSers got me through that, and now I'm looking forward to it. It is kind of annoying knowing that I have a change ahead but feeling kind of in limbo for a few months. Maybe if we had gotten a place picked out and knew for sure, I'd feel differently.

I'm excited for you, and I'm not even the one moving. I was just in the city you are planning on moving to yesterday for a conference, and I was reminded of how much it really has to offer. The downtown area has some beautiful historic buildings. Actually when you mentioned that you were moving out here I was most excited that you will get to see and learn about the local history of the area. I'm such a history nerd! I love California history, what can I say?
