Just got done rewatching it for the first time since seeing it in the theater and yeah, it's definitely the best of the new films. Leaves me with a "FUCK YEAH, STAR WARS!" feeling which TFA and TLJ both failed to do. The absolutely nailed the production design in recreating the look of all the OT stuff, while at the same time updating it all to look not as cheap under close scrutiny. ;) And the Battle of Scarif is hands down the best Star Wars battle we've seen. Just amazing.

I also think Roque one is the best from the new films. The second time I enjoyed It even more , which I can't say from TFA.

I think Rogue One is better than The Force Awakens. Doesn't hurt that I am in love with Felicity Jones.

Rogue One is the best-selling blu-ray release of 2017 in the US:

I also love Rogue One! I love the characters (especially Jyn :luvlove: ), the insane amount of detail in the set designs, and the story. It's a visual love-letter to the OT era and I can't get enough of it. In fact, since R1 hit blu last April, I've watched it more times than any of the other movies (21 vs. 13, to be exact). It just sucks that we won't get any more movies with these characters... though I suppose Obi-Wan could visit Jedha for some reason in his standalone movie and run into Chirrut & Baze. :)

Really liked the squadrons attack on Eadu, gives me a Rogue Squadron vibe every time I see it.

Only SW movie I don't, and won't, own.

I know a lot of people like it, but it was, to me at least, a drab, dull, uninspired film without a single memorable new character, a foregone conclusion for a plot, and a lot of clunky fan service.

Vader for 2 minutes at the end doesn't make up for the prior 2 hours + being massively uninteresting and unmemorable.

I know I am in the minority, and that's fine. I'm glad people found a way to enjoy it. It's a bummer that I seem to be missing something. But, for me, this was lower than AOTC.

If RO was lower than AOTC, where does that put TPM? Heh.

    Damn, son.

I don't think it deserves that much hate.
I like to remember that it is the boldest SW film to date because it killed EVERY character it introduced. All of them. That's a bold move, as it means no sequels or tie-ins or anything.

Three million units, crikey. I keep reading over and over about how no one is buying physicals anymore. And here we see that DISNEY MADE $62 MILLION this year selling Rogue One discs. That's a lot of cash from no one!

    I tried watching it.

Am surprised they didn't use the main SW theme. Instead they made a new one in the same tone, but it doesn't work as well.

Some of it feels surprisingly flat despite it's having the sort of grit I should be appreciating. TESB and TLJ succeed at the tone in ways RO doesn't quite nail down... especially considering some characters' fates.

Typical plot holes for a movie that bridges or adds continuity despite being made decades later, I-III also had holes and IV-VI weren't exactly rock solid either. Those didn't faze me, I've sat through worse... I should give this a re-watch, maybe I wasn't in the mood proper the first time.

Of course, noting Vader, considering how calm and placid he seems in "A New Hope", is remarkably caffeinated in his infamous slaughter scene. Still great to see, aspiration and all... :D

And I thought 80s Doctor Who jumped from location to location rapidly in some stories... Rogue One takes the cake in that regard, and the whole bakery along with it.

And the color palette was (intentionally) so garishly desaturated?

CGI Tarkin, despite not being as fluid as CGI Leia, worked better because Tarkin blinked more. Leia looked better all around, but she never blinked and started looking like she was high on something. It must be good CGI to send out the creepy vibes, albeit unintentionally.

    "Neutered"?

Visually stunning but that won't hold up during the subsequent rewatch.

Great point about "event movie". When I rewatch, I will keep that in mind - thanks!

I agree, their going for a route other than force magic and light sabers is appreciated - and TLJ does open up a lot more as well. I wonder where the franchise will go with this...

They didn't because it isn't a main line Star Wars movie, same reason they didn't do an opening crawl. It's a stylistic choice.

Well in ANH he has no reason to hurry, the ship is secure in his Star Destroyer, nowhere for it to go.
