Godzilla 2014: Rumors, Pix and filming

Another concept model....this one does have the fins from the millennium design and I do love it. Final design will be revealed tomorrow!!

Those designs are already a lot closer to the Japanese version than I was expecting. I was pretty sure they weren't going to go as different as the '90s American movie, but I was still expecting something pretty different.

You know, I was kinda hoping they'd go with the Ricardo Delgado design from the 90s, ...

... but it seems pretty sure their Godzilla will be standing upright. But maybe it will still borrow some features of the Delgado design (similar to what they did for GMK).

Though he's been partially seen in the trailer they showed; more like his classic bark-like skin, not as bulky as the sculpts, and much larger and jagged dorsal plates. Oh, and he's massive, especially against the insect/Cloverfield-like Kaiju he was seen facing off against.

I did read that..I also heard a rumor that the teaser will be released soon.

I wonder how large he'll be. IIRC, his original height was 50 meters give or take, but in the Heisei series he started out at 60 meters, then grew to 75, and by the end of the Heisei series was 100 meters tall, which I think is the maximum.

From io9:

Yesterday, director Gareth Edwards told us there would be other creatures in the film — and here's our first sight of one. It looks scary and huge.

And then Godzilla's foot comes down next to the creature. Godzilla's FOOT. Which is dwarfing this poor spindly little creature.

And then there's a massive hero shot of this previously big-looking creature looming over the airport, and then Godzilla rises up behind it, and it's like a skyscraper next to a hut.

Gareth said on IGN that he's bigger than any of the Toho film Godzilla's, though not much taller. There was talk that he was around 120 meters in height before the footage shown today, however in the stuff seen at SDCC he appears to be even bigger than that.

^Bigger than 120 meters? Okay, that's overkill. His size is implausible enough already. There should be limits.

(Just for comparison, how big are the kaiju and Jaegers in Pacific Rim?)

The Kaiju in Pacific Rim came in stages, stage 5 was the biggest of the bunch and it's size wasn't measured. The Jeagers were of varying sizes too to keep up with the changing Kaiju.

Yeah the '91-'95 version of Godzilla was 100 meters tall so it's not too far out giving how big buildings are nowadays,

It's kinda neat, but I wonder how long someone looked at it before going: "wait a minute..." :p

Also, the thing about Godzilla's "massive size" seems to be mostly about his height compared to the other Kaiju, and the airport surroundings they're in. The other Kaiju apparently isn't very big, so Godzilla probably just seems so much larger than he actually is.

Here was what someone who saw the footage had to say about the monster sizes:

Ok I would guess that the insect-like creature was closer to 150 feet tall and Godzilla towered over him, I would imagine Godzilla to be somewhere between 300 and 325 feet tall. In the shot where you see the insect creature attacking the airport, and Godzilla rising up behind it, there was really no true sense of scale other than earlier shots showing the insect creature crashing through freeway overpasses.

This one's a Photoshop job. It's the side view of the head concept put onto the model in your avatar, with some Millennium-style spines. You can really tell where the spines meet the back.

It'd still look okay, though, teeth notwithstanding.
