Godzilla 2014: Rumors, Pix and filming

I see that some of the Godzilla toys are starting to appear in shops; here's Godzilla's (and MUTO's) origin according to the back of one of the packages, spoilers obviously:

Hmm... that implies that the events of the original movie didn't happen, but that the backstory of the original is still largely intact. Of course, that's just a toy-package summary; there might still be room in the actual film to accommodate the '54 Tokyo attack, even if it's left implicit.

Doh, and still no image of the feet.

This is the only one I've seen that includes part of a foot in-shot:

Also, there's a rumour going around that Legendary acquired the rights to five of Toho's monsters including Godzilla. If true, my guess on the others would be: Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.

EDIT: Video of the giant Godzilla toy here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z1DmE3aTKM

DOUBLE EDIT: I see there's loads of images of the MUTO creatures circulating now as well, and they're certainly not what I was expecting to see; they feel very much like Ultraman/Gamera kaiju to me. Which, considering their relationship to Godzilla now probably shouldn't be that surprising really.

The toys seem to confirm something else...

Godzilla still has his infamous "atomic breath"!

agreed. it feels like something that would be more at home fighting Gamera or Ultraman. i don't have a problem with it though.

I don't either. I was just expecting, for want of a better word, a more "western" style of monster, but these were pretty interesting to see.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but there's been a lot of fevered online trailer speculation about Rodan possibly being the creature seen diving into bay and/or responsible for bringing down the jets.

Personally don't get the Rodan-love myself (always preferred KG and Mothra) but will be interested to see how Edwards handles it if/when they make an appearance.

Apparently that's the smaller male "winged MUTO", seeing the toy pretty much settles that, since it appears to have leathery-like wings. If there were other Toho monsters that Legendary picked up, I'd expect them to appear in the potential sequel, since Edwards wanted a "Destroy All Monsters" monster island set up for that.

You can see the MUTO creatures in the below links, SPOILERS!

Thanks for the links. :). Helpful. Though not that impressed by any of those models. I used to have a great classic Godzilla that sat on various work PCs over the years, often a conversation piece. Sadly someone stole it one day and never bothered to replace it.

This is somewhat interesting, there was talk going on about the toys and it would appear that the "winged" and "eight legged" MUTO are apparently the same monster, and that we haven't seen or heard anything about the bigger one. It would appear that the MUTO we have seen sprouts wings later on.

Looks like the fan editor tried to use "equivalent" shots so they would keep the tempo of the 2014 trailer dialog.

As for the documentaries, I stumbled across those several months ago. Thankfully, I didn't have too much trouble finding them again.

Sincerely,

Bill
