God or anime, gee tough choice

Sorry if this is old news, but I don't get to watch Sky all that often, it's only in the past week I've discovered that the Anime Channel in the UK, Sky Digital 199, has disappeared. Better yet it's been replaced by Open Heavens TV

From Otaku News;

From what we can understand Anime Central failed because it couldn't raise advertising revenue. Advertisers were unsure what kind of demographic would watch an anime station, and also if the viewers would be interested in their product. We know getting solid viewing figures for TV shows on satellite can be expensive, especially when you want them independently verified, and advertisers like to know these sort of things. We don't know if Anime Central paid to research the viewing figures or if they did what sort of viewing figures they got. We do however suspect advertisers hesitation to throw their money at a new TV station pitching to unfamiliar demographic could be a key factor.

I guess a god is a better bet for income purposes, at least GITS and Cowboy Bebop are still showing on channel 188.

So it failed because of low ratings? If they are worried about demographics don't they realize anime covers just about every demographic imaginable?

It was a very niche channel, I wouldn't have known it was there, if it wasn't for spotting it by chance. I suspect they couldn't afford to pay to have their ratings data collected, so couldn't give advertisers enough demographic data, to get decent advertising rates.

What the hell is Open Heavens TV ?

What does it show all day ?
Probably the usual religious claptrap, like the other religious channels.

One man's 'claptrap' can be another's inspiration. OHTV wouldn't be my cup of tea either but I'm not gonna insult them.

Anyway, I can't stand Anime, so what do I care?
Have you seen most of these "religious" channels? Pretty much everyone of them is insulting, so I don't mind insulting them.

If you don't care, then why are you bothering to post in a thread that is about an Anime channel? Because I insulted "religious" channels?

When they came for the syndicated cartoons I remained silent I did not read them
When they came for the animee I remained silent, I did not watch them
When they came for the CGI I remained silent, for I did not watch it
When they came for the traditionally drawn animation there was no animation left to watch.

I have no idea how it works on Sky, but religious channels are extremely cheap for U.S. cable companies to provide, so its possible they replaced it to cut their costs.

They're transmitting free to air, you don't have to have a sky subscription to watch them, in fact the channels pay sky to be on their EPG. Upwards of £80,000 I believe.

oh come on, they could run the "Dragon Ball/Yu-Gi-Oh power hour and have tons of kids advertisements, then run Hentai after 11 and get the porn dempgraphic
