Goals. Score!

^ Well, 10 lbs overweight isn't all that much, but it is more significant on a 5'2" woman than on a 6'+ man. Also, it is the diabetes. Even a 5 lb weight loss naturally lowers blood sugar. I can't control type 1 diabetes solely with diet and exercise like many people with type 2 diabetes can, but it does make a huge difference. I was just talking to a friend today who's had type 1 since he was 4 (he's 34 now). He's having eye trouble in one eye these days and has to get an injection in his eye once a month for a year to resolve the issue. I'm terrified of developing those kinds of complications.
Also, I miss being able to run 4 miles in the mornings, being able to bike up the bridge without breathing hard, and so on!

I was in a band for a few years and I loved singing(Screaming-Death Metal)...I am 31 now a feel it is too late, I really want to make music...mix of techno and Death Metal. I really like writing song and can write better to music than if I were to write a novel. I would just do it myself, I wanna get some software again and do something serious again. I don't think many can know what it is like to be infront of a audience and just do what you love...I feel like Superman when I get up and sing/scream...I love music so much. That would be my serious goal...to create and preform my music.

^
Naw, More like Daft Punk meets Kataklysm...I would also add in some piano and female vocals(for hooks & Background). So it would be like Daft Punk+Kataklysm+Tori Amos.

My overall goal is to do policy work for the VA (Veteran's Administration for those non-Americans). I've interned doing casework and really enjoyed and I want to continue to help those who serve. Right now I am working at Walter Reed doing IT, so right place, wrong job, but that's okay. The next step for me is to go get my masters, so I can save up money and get to know people here first anyways.

More immediate goals: make some friends in the D.C. and finish this song I've been working on.

My goal is to be a parent.

We are taking the adoption classes and filling out mountains of forms. We hope to be approved by February.

Will do. The approval process is a rather daunting task, but I'm trying to take it one week at a time.

^I can't help but notice that thus far I am the only woman whose goal is world domination. I am up against a group of men. Indeed, a group of male Trekkies. You speak of valiant death in battle. My battles will be won with seduction, manipulation, negotiation, words, lust. My ascent will be subtle, I will linger in the shadows. Behind every great man is a woman holding the strings...

I can almost taste the sweetness of victory now.
While I enjoy some modicum of power, actual world domination is too stressful for my tastes: too many hassle to deal with. Thus, I would like to offer your my scientific genius to your quest for absolute power. In return, my needs are small. In fact, I have this affinity for, uh, beachfront property. :techman:

On a more limited scale, my goal right now are:
1. Be done with this damned PhD.
2. Find a good post-doc fellowship.
3. Muck in with my fiancee.

I think it's good for a start. :)

Yeah that would be a a pretty good reason to lose weight then.

Me it's just loneliness and death I want to avoid.

Wait that's kinda serious too...

tsq, I find myself wondering what your Mirror Universe counterpart is like. :vulcan: :D

My goal is to make a computer game.

I have some experience making small ones, but I want to make a bigger one. I know more of less what I want it to be, which is a tactical real time strategy game. I have started and abandoned and restarted this project several times, but I keep getting in a muddle as some things in the programming are just mind bending. Also, I struggle with graphics.

I honestly believe there is no game more complex than those in this genre, despite how straightforward these games appear from a player's perspective. Either that or I've been going completely the wrong way about things.

^That is an interesting goal!

Today I didn't do much to work on my goals. I was going to go join the gym today, but I'm feeling really sick so came home straight after work instead. :(

Well, as expected, my goal is right on schedule. So far, have spent a whole week avoiding the lifts at work (although there was that one exception today when I was accompanying my boss back to the office with piles of notes).

Now that I can manage largely with this goal for a full working week, I now intend to extend this up until the start of the New Year.

Next, I aim to reduce my dietary intake too. Smaller portions and all that. It might even save me money.
It's a big ask, but having improved my diet overall this year, I think I can continue with it. :bolian:

Actually, you should talk to my brother. His goal is to make computer and or console games. He has a project going on with a group, and he's trying to get his own thing off the ground. And he loves the programming and is dabbling in graphics.

Thankyou for the offer, but I'm determined to do as much as I can by myself :)

Group programming projects have a notoriously high failure rate. It's one of those activities that needs a high degree of coordination to succeed, which means one person making all the executive decisions, and everyone else accepting that and doing as they're told. This works where people are employed in these roles, but few enjoy investing their leisure time in something that feels too much like work. :p

^ Good luck with the game! I never got any farther than inputting BASIC programs from magazines on 8-bit machines with my dad back in the 80's...mind you, I got pretty good at making maps using the game editor for Counterstrike a few years back. But that's definitely not coding. Coding is difficult.

:D

thanks. :)

The only computer we had up until the mid 90s was a ZX Spectrum, which like yours was an 8-bit machine. Whenever we had the computer out for the evening it was always a family thing, because it tied up the only television we had in the lounge. So that was where I was introduced to programming too, inbetween sessions avoiding those wacky amoebatrons. :p

If anybody wants to think up some ideas for possible themes or specific content etc for my game, (channelling the wisdom of your combined experiences of real time strategy games), then I would appreciate the input.
