Goals. Score!

sidious and myself go for long marathon walks throughout manhattan all the time, send me a PM if you'd ever like to join.
Actually, that sounds great. I'm somewhat of a marathon walker as well -- I walk home from over the Williamsburg Bridge every day. I've been a bit down lately, but I'm sure the mood will pass and I'll pm you -- maybe in a few weeks. :)

I am updating on my goals!

I made a four year plan (I know most people do five, but these are things I want to accomplish before I'm 30).

1. Be published.
2. Have my own place (I currently live with 3 roommates).
3. Get in shape (I'm about 10 lbs overweight and not as fit as I could be).
4. Increase my financial security.

Well, on Monday I heard from the first agent to whom I submitted, and they're interested in my book! I've found a great apartment in my friend's building in Harlem, 1 bedroom, he's letting me have it for $600! It's being completely gut-renovated and isn't ready for me yet, but by February I'll have accomplished that goal! I've been working really hard on budgeting -- it seems the getting fit goal is the only one on which I'm not doing so well.

I guess I'll focus on that tomorrow. And writing my goals down is helping me, so this is what I'll have to do tomorrow:

-Stick to my diet! 50 grams or less of carbs.
-Do my morning yoga (used to do this every day but fell out of the habit)
-Keep my blood sugar under control (I've been up and down lately. :( )

How are other's goals coming along?

Wow, that's great TSQ. Congrats on the book!:bolian: Usually I would make a joke out of something like your suggestion, but I tend to be very vague in my goals so maybe I should be specific and write them down.

^I've always been vague about my goals. Throughout school the goal was plain: good grades, good college. Academics came easily to me, so achieving that goal didn't require much effort. Same went for the college goals: Learn a lot, graduate with honors. After I achieved those, though, I found myself floundering. I was vague on my goals after I graduated and as a result of that, and of my own mental health problems, I feel I didn't achieve nearly as much as I could have these past three years.
A few months ago I decided to be proactive, write my goals down and take the steps I needed to take to achieve them. Since I made that decision I finished my book, submitted it, and got a response, found a second job illustrating, learned everything I could about my student loans and my repayment options, budgeted and found a new apartment, etc. Writing them and taking baby steps is really helping.

I'll have to be more diligent on my health goals, though.

My current goals are going well:

1. Finish Book 1 of Shatternity. This is "done," I am just working on the cover. The book has been edited, typeset, and has supplemental material added. I am exploring options for the cover but my plan is to have it available in time for Christmas.
2. Get my own place. Which I did back in August.
3. Buy a house for my family. This has been set back at least a year, maybe two, because the one we were going to buy turned out to have old termite damage that was not repaired, and is severe enough we wouldn't be able to get a loan for it anyway. Sigh.
4. Get a job in Indiana. While I really enjoy living in New Jersey, I hate being away from my family. It would be nice to get a good job in Indiana again. But that's going to have to wait until the economy is doing much better--so we are probably looking at a couple years.

On my next trip to NYC I am also making it a goal to see some games that aren't baseball. I cannot WAIT to see the new Meadowlands stadium (Giants/Jets) and also the new Red Bull Arena (soccer).

Also I plan to drive down to KC next fall and catch a Chiefs game at the then-newly-remodelled Arrowhead. (I've never been to a pro football game before)

My goals are simple and specific..

1 Secure a decent paying position in the North S.F. Bay Area
2 Learn Portuguese
3 Develop my Super Weapon...
4 Create my Lair (preferably in Brazil, hence the Portuguese)
5 Hire Minions
6 Use my Super Weapon to hold the world hostage
7 Rule the World according to my whims..

Many things that are way too personal to post on here, plus:

Memorize the New Testament by Christmas of next year.
Find a seminary for after I get my bachelors.
Find a new program for my bachelors.
Get a satisfying job.

Glad to see your progress, TSQ!

So here were the previous goals I mentioned in the thread:

I'm going to complete a BA in psychology!

And I am one day, going to come out of this horrible time I'm going through, and I'm going to do it with my idealism intact.

Those are my main goals right now.

Let's see, an update ... I'm doing well in my classes. Everyone teases me because I'm a ridiculous perfectionist and that annoying person that always participates and asks a million questions. But the cool thing about taking classes as an adult, with other adults, is that when they tease it's not in a mean way. I've had some of the other students start mimicking my studying and class techniques. And one girl finds my love of office supplies endlessly amusing. "I love that you love office supplies!"

I've been doing a lot of research into school psychology, to see if that's something that I'd want to do. My anxiety kicked in big time but I've met all three of the school psychologists in my old high school district, and they've all been really encouraging. One has even agreed to be my professional advisor as I make my way through the program, which is ridiculously kind of him. It's flattering to have professionals in the field telling me that they think I'd be good at it. I love their attitudes about social responsibility as well. I haven't been getting the kind of support from my parents that I would like, but I'll just have to deal with that.

My personal life is still a disaster, but I'm still here, and still functioning quite well I think. I decided to seek some additional professional help. I figure it can only aid me in becoming a better person. And I don't know what's in my future, but hopefully this way I'll be more prepared for whatever comes.

My only goal is to become a billionaire...I am off to a rough start. :(

I want to finish writing my current book, the books I have planned, and then get all of them published. I also want to return to Japan for a long-term stay, to work there in a capacity that uses my language skills, and to be with the girl I care about. I also want to weigh what I did a few years ago again.

Hey, I've actually made tremendous strides toward all but the first of these since I posted this. Huh. Who knew I could be so productive.

^
No, not following those steps.

A guy who won a lottery jackpot($100 Million) in CA said he was going to turn that into a billion. I figure I would start by winning the lottery and see where that takes me.

^I have no doubt that's how you would go about it  Well if you want a propaganda video maker I'm up for the job.

Me I'd like to first an foremost get a job I actually like. I have one right now that's not the worst I've had, but it is not terrible well payed, it's very exhausting work a lot of the time and I'm basically just still there since I don't have anything else.

What I want to do is be a film editor. If I can get there I'll finally be happy jobwise.

After the job is fixed I obviously want my Camaro. But seeing as I've found out I just barely fit in it heightwise I'm actually going to be checking out both the Challenger and the Mustang once it's time to buy a car. But it's gotta be a V8 and RWD.

My biggest want on the want list though is to do my planned road trip trough the US with at least my brother and to make a documentary film during that trip. I had a subject for it a bit back but I came to think that it wasn't such a good subject and scrapped that idea. Perhaps just simply do a film about why go on a road trip trough the US?

The thing with that plan is that I need to wait a few years so my brother is old enought to get a license so both of us can drive, and it's going to cost me about 10K at least to the trip, so saving up the money is a good plan.

Then it's just the more personal stuff like lose my virginity, get some kind of relationship and so on. Not so much for getting married and having kids anymore. For me just getting the first two steps are proving hard enough. Plus I think I'm a bit too selfish to be a good enough dad.
Yeaaah...not very close to accomplishing any of this.

But great on you making your goals tsq!

Congratulations tsq for moving forward with your goals! Delighted for you! :techman:

Mine remain the same as I mentioned upthread, and progressing pretty much to schedule; hey it's only been a month since I posted them and the big one is medium term not short term! :D

3. Get in shape (I'm about 10 lbs overweight and not as fit as I could be).
i like the shape your in and you are fit as hell
Was gonna with the obvious, "wink wink, nudge nudge" addition here, but let's be serious. I know, it sucks being serious, but let me try.

First off somehow, managed to not react on this earlier on. 10 pounds isn't a whole lot of overweight. Try 80 (or 110, depending on how you see it). My ideal weight is apparently 198 pounds (or 90 kgs). My current is in the neighborhood of 308 (140 kgs). But my brother is at about 230 and only has a little extra flab, which is barely admissible as flab btw. So I'd be extremly happy with 220, and actually think at 198 I'd be way too skinny.

Unless I'm of course way out line here and it's not a looks thing but a health thing regarding to your diabetes. In that case feel free to tell me to shut up.
