Global Warming to be worse than expected

Hi all,

actually it's not just worse than expected, but the worst predictions are coming true.

In 2004 a major international panel forecast the cover could vanish by 2100. Last December, some experts said the summer ice could go in the next 10 or 20 years.

And now, the suspected year is 2013. I've little faith, but that is enough to make even me pray...

Well, one virtue of this particular prediction is that it won't take long to see whether they know what they're talking about or not.

Yup, the human species is doomed now... the clock to doomsday is ticking...

Time for Gore-El to build a rocketship, and launch a lone baby into the cosmos, on a course for another world orbiting a yellow sun.

I just wish the damn ice would hurry up and melt. It would make little difference to me and hopefully I won't have to hear about it melting anymore because it'll have already melted.

I wonder why some folks are so hell bent on gloom and doom?

Maybe gloom and doom is what the Human race needs to evolve past it's selfishness and childishness.
The clock on global warming is ticking, I just wish it would tick a little faster.

I think there are ten of thousands of hard working scientists working on the probem world wide, 24/7/365.

Constantly shouting "The Sky is Falling" by those NOT involved in creating the solution will accomplish nothing,

You mean we better not talk about something that will change life as we know it? I prefer talking.

I would think my idea would allow for serious discussion on what a person thinks about global warming and what they as individuals are doing to help. Posting links is not a discussion.

Like for instance, In my case, I don't drive. I haven't bought gas in over two years. I walk or walk to the bus stop. But mostly I just walk to the store and back. Keep my thermostats set at a reasonable level. Use those mercury light bubs. Use some of the new biodegradable cleaning products. Buy almost nothing wrapped in layers of indestructible plastic, Ect Ect Ect..

So, outside of posting links, What is your reasonable plan for cleaning up the air?

Not many people are willing to do their bit to save the climate. In the end mother nature is going to sort it out for herself. Melting icecaps will be one of her ways of 'dealing' with the Human situation. Call it the Earths natural defences against a viral infestation.
The world and the climate will sort itself out eventually, we have an opportunity to sort it out first but clearly we're not going to do so, so we should suffer the consequences of our stupidity.

We shall see about Global Warming. If the space rock that flew 40,000 miles by us the other day had hit us we would have seen another Tunguska type event, If we get hit by any other space rock larger than that global warming is going to be the least of our problems.

This is why we need to dump far more resources into space exploration and colonization, once we reach that point we will be able to deflect or alter the course of harmful space rocks, plus know when they will hit, plus we will also be able to build orbital solar power which will mean we won't have to burn fossil fuels for electricity any more. By the time you reach that point a "weather control grid" isn't that far off, which would mean we could steer hurricanes and alter weather patterns to turn Earth even greener and reverse the effects of global warming.

Plus the fact we are still technically in an ice age is lost to many people, the reason we even have a northern ice cap is due to continent distribution, and the southern cap is iced over because you have an almost circular land mass over it. The Northern ice cap was formed when the North and South American continents bridged together stopping the equatorial flow of water between the pacific and the Atlantic which influenced the oceanic conveyor to not move as much warm water up North.

I'd tell you that Humans have nothing to do with global warming but I know you wouldnt belive me so why try.

Has it occurred to you that although Humans may not be wholly responsible for global warming they are at least a factor in it? Humans are not innocent.

I would have thought that the people on this board would be smarter than to buy into this nonsense. There are more scientists that say there is not global warming than say there is. Nasa just revealed that it's satelite was malfunctioning and there is actually more ice up there about 12,000 sq. miles of it. A japanese study just came out this week that says it does not exist. Our orbit has brought us closer to the sun warming the planet and now our orbit is changing back aand we are cooling.

That may be true...

But you have to admit pumping green house gases, created by human activity, into the atmosphere is some thing that must come to an end.

I just feel it's human arrogance to assume we've had that much of an effect on the planet. We've been an industrialized planet for a little over a hundred years ,to assume that in thsat time period we've hurt 4.5 billion years of progress just seems a little crazy. Yes we have a responsibilty to be good stewards of the planet but we started being environmentally conscious for awhile now. We cannot go so far to be so green as to harm our way of life and spend so much money on something that more than likely does not exist. I'm sure we have some effect on the planet but how great is that, out of 100% is 1-5 % I think it may be in there somewhere not really enough to make a huge difference. The best energy source we have is oil lets use it while developing better options but don't cut your nose to spite your face.
