As someone who watches for the songs as much as the story, it did bug me a tad that the first song didn't appear until 20 minutes into the episode.

I didn't mind that. Glee was at it's best in Season 1 and 2, and especially in the first season the musical numbers were integral part of the story, unlike later when the stories seem to have been an after-thought to the songs.

I can't disagree with that point because it's a good one, but to me I found I was enjoying the show a lot more when it was full of songs with a little plot here and there.

I believe it was mid season 2 to season 3 where it got really song heavy, I use to refer to it as Porn, but with songs instead of sex, lol.
