gleedämmerung - the S6/final season thread

So, the two-hour premiere of Glee's sixth and final (half-)season was tonight. But, because the fifth-season dvds just came out this past Monday, even though I Netflixed the first available copies, I myself won't be watching S6 in real time because it'll take me a while to catch up. Thanks for not releasing the S5 dvd back in the fall, Fox. But, I might catch up in time to catch the series finale; who knows.

Anyhow, in the meantime, I present this thread. Is anyone here watching? (... Also, I admit it: once I got the idea to make the above pic, I kinda had to ensure it had a TrekBBS home. :p)

I feel nervous and cautiously optimistic at the same time. I don't like this series anymore, but I still watch because it is the final season and I just hope there is a shred of decency in the final season to make me remember the good times.

I'll probably watch the final episode. I watched and really enjoyed the first two seasons, but then I think I outgrew it.

Based on the first two episodes, I am cautiously optimistic to kinda hopeful to get that wish. I really liked these two episodes, and it seems like this season is saying lets burn Glee to the ground and raise it up to allow it go out on a high note. It seems like hey heard the criticisms of season five (Rachel always succeeding and getting everything handed to her to how the new cast was treated) and tried to address them. I still wish they would give Sue an original storyline, (Jane Lynch deserves better) but other than that, for a series that is limping to the finish line, it was a strong start.

I found I enjoyed the first episode a lot more than the second episode of the two. Not that the second one was bad, but I felt it was a little spread out, it didn't help that we got all the former cast members and they really didn't get a lot to do. Quinn is one of my favorite characters but all she did last night was get one really good number and then stood around for the rest of the episode (more or less).

I also didn't like the performance of 'Home' as much as I was hoping I would (it's one of my favorite songs and usually works in moments like these), here it just felt kind of off.

Of the numbers I did enjoy though, I loved Barry's performance of both 'Uninvited' and 'Let it Go' the group performance of 'Take on Me' was really awesome, and the girl who tried to try out for the Warbler's, her number was great (I'm not familiar with the song though).

I fear the lightness of the first two seasons is gone for ever, but I hope they can get some of the crazy of the beginning of that show back before the end.

And I really hope that Rachel is not getting too happy an ending. As written and portrayed that character is just an awful person.

I thought there was a lot of energy in this episode, and it was fun, but I didn't like the bashing of the Christians. That wasn't necessary and it was ugly and un-Glee like.

Glee is a show that would have benefited from a set endpoint and a limited run: follow the kids up to graduation and end it. It was a show about high school and it never found it footing after they graduated.

Hell, I think an argument can be made that it should have been a one season miniseries that dealt with the trip to sectionals.

In any event, bets on when an adapted version of the pilot becomes a broadway musical?

The show was a huge hit for Fox for the first season, more so because the songs were selling really well. What they need to do is have decent writing and the show hasn't had that in years. And I never understood why the show was renewed for a 5th and a 6th season at the same time. It would have been better to just end it after 5 years, but they didn't even know what they wanted to do, even when planning the final season. Season 5 they realized they should stick with the original cast, got rid of the high school... just to go back to the schooling the finale season? I don't get it at all.

They were setting up Finn to take over the Glee club from Will in Season 5 I think. But then Corey passed away over the summer and all the work they did on Season 5 I'm sure had to be thrown out.

Even after that self imposed hiatus early on in Season 5 they never were able to right the ship. I'm still not 100% on them shoving the Rachel character into the role they wanted for Finn, but at least they're back at the school, I was one of the (actually many) people who hated when they went to New York full time and left McKinley High behind.

I'm three eps into S5 (just watch the Finn memorial ep last night), and still - so far - love just how batshit insane the series is. Yes, it lost any grip on reality seasons and seasons ago, but the barking madness that followed has been pretty damn glorious in its own, equally compelling way. Hope that that doesn't fade, at least...

I still love Glee, don't get me wrong. But for me Glee was at it's height during Season's 1-3, actually I don't think many will disagree with that point. But I loved it when Glee was essentially a show about a bunch of great musical numbers broken up by some "plot" every once in a while (now people may disagree with that point ;) ).

I can't believe that new episodes are pulling in 2 million viewers. How the mighty have fallen. I lost interest in the show when they started pushing all the adult characters into background roles. Those were the real stars of the show for me in the first couple of seasons.

The New York plot line was one of the main reasons I dropped the show two years ago. I've heard how they brought Sue to New York and it sounded like they had run out of ideas.

I don't see filling my DVR with episodes, though I might, on some night where I'm bored, at least watch the finale on Netflix, sometime in the future.

Yeah Fox screwed up with season 4, they renewed the show for two seasons at once which was just a dumb idea. Then season 5 came around and the ratings just kept getting lower. I'm a little surprised Fox didn't try to get out of the 6th season, they probably figured 13 episodes would be cheaper than the legal headaches.

Season 4 also had the weird idea of ending the season in the middle of the school year, rather than the end of it like other seasons. Reading now that Glee was renewed for four and five at the same time I suppose this was planned to make one huge story line, but than of course Corey passed away and they had to change gears.

I actually liked season 4, and enjoyed the first half of season 5 before they went to New York full time. I might have mentioned it upthread, but I liked all the new New Directions members and was hoping they devout more storylines to them, but nope. They were dropped completely and it looks like we won't see them again (except for of course Kitty, who showed up in the premiere).

They probably had the show going in a certain direction that had to be changed after Cory's death. At least they have time to tie everything up. I wonder if Sue is going to get her comeuppance. I would love it, but I really doubt it. I do hate the way they have Becky talking trash and wish they would stop that. I would love to see Rachel et al sue those slushy tossers for assault. Or their parents.

I hate Becky now a lot. Yeah I know it's a character that has down syndrome (I think that was it) but it's so mean spirited and not in a good way.

Now, last week's episode The Hurt Locker was weird, in a good sense. The rant Sue through at Will in her office was just hilarious.

It was weird and there was no real resolution. Which is actually fine since it was just the first part, but I think that's why a lot of people disliked it, because it didn't really do anything, it was just set up. I hear in the next episode the new New Directions knock it out of the park though.

As someone who watches for the songs as much as the story, it did bug me a tad that the first song didn't appear until 20 minutes into the episode.
