I am so anxious about this movie - the trailers look great, i love Paul Rudd and the Stranger Things kids and there will be cameos by the original cast. The setup is perfect but other movies had that too and bombed spectacularly.
I loved the original 2 movies ( yeah sue me, i love Ghostbusters 2) and was so disappointed with the all female reboot, so i really hope they knock it out of the park with this one - both as a nostalgic look to the past but also paving the way to continue into the future ( if it's good).

You'll get no lawsuit from me. GB2 may not be the classic that the first is, but it's a heck of a lot of fun and I love it.
Total agreement. I was 11 when it came out and loved it and still do.
With hindsight it should be appreciated even more. Sure it was not the original movie. But it never could be. It’s only other film with the classic cast. Also looking back at other sequels of that time - it was rare to get good or even adequate sequels. Often they were crappy money grabbers. Clearly they put their full effort into it.
The biggest complaint is weak = that It’s a repeat of the original. In terms of general story frame but that’s it. There are many new and unique ideas. Even at 11 the idea that they disbanded was a shock and surprise... what about the cartoon I watch every Saturday morning for years.
I suspect that they immediately did “let’s get the band back together again” partly made it difficult to conceive a third film all these years. Every franchise does that now. Bill Murray was always going to take convincing. But selling it to the studio was a problem too. Considering many saw the second film as repeat of the first, a third that repeated anything of the second would have been a hard sell.

I also love Ghostbusters II. I get why so many don't but I agree that it's a lot of fun.
Ghostbusters 2 is a fine sequel. If fans expect #2 to be as good as or even better than #1 then they're on a bullet train straight for disappointment. Even with The Godfather and the Trek movies it's debatable that the second film is better than the first.

I watched the two original movies back to back recently and I really don't get the repeat assertion. I think people might have false memories to that account, as there's far more originality to it than a lot of sequels do, and the scenarios in both movies are pretty much polar opposites.

So much to love in GB2, and Peter MacNicol's Janosz is high on my personal list. Never understood the negativity around it.

The film was my introduction to Peter MacNicol and I've been a huge fan of his ever since.
