There's already a twitter account called Ghostsplaining, which does the job of "RT'ing sad dudes who cannot process that women are ruining their childhood."
And like elsewhere in the internet, a lot (a LOT) of those tweets are echoed in this very thread, and then backtracked to try and save face when they're called out for sexism and hostility against the idea that women can make good stories, or that they also shared in the very same childhood that men grew up with.

I feel I can't make any comments about all this without it being lost in a sea of toxicity. So other than having Feig directing, an all-female team and the suggested casting is anything else known about the movie?

Other than knowing they'll be busting ghosts and causing havok wherever they go? Nope. It's all conjecture at this point. It's way too early tell at this point which direction they're taking it in.

The people who think such things are ridiculous or, even worse, insulting are the ones who are self-delusional and crazy.
It's no different than calling a movie a children's movie or a family film. It's just an identifier used to describe the general audience the movie is aimed at. The people who keep trying to shove "romance and love" into the definition is what's maddening, as if that's the only thing that attracts women to something.
Why? That's how the human brain works. The use of categories, archetypes, and stereotypes is one of the many reasons you've managed to survive since birth.

Yes, it's "crazy" to question the use of genre terms. I'm "self-delusional" to ask about it. WTF?
Genres are used also to sell films and it has long prohibited films that try to do more than one thing from gaining wide release. It's the reason many independent films suffer; they don't fall neatly into one category and therefore marketers don't know how to sell them. The obsession the film going public has with making sure everything lands in a specific genre is one reason why we don't have as many good films as we should have.

I thought ALL genres were vague.
Action? Drama?
A lot of different types of action films: cop movies (which could have its own subgenre, I.e. French Connection and Lethal Weapon are pretty different), martial arts movies (IP Man and Rumble in the Bronx are different), action-comedy.
Drama? That could be Godfather, a gangster film. Cabaret, a musical drama. Rocky, an action drama.
All genres are vague, Sidious.

Ghostbusters is my all time favorite movie and I'm willing to give this reboot a chance, as I love Kristen Wiig. My only request is they don't resort to the typical Melissa McCarthy "I'm bigger and loud, so I'm automatically hilarious" humor. My only other tweak I would make would be to cast Aisha Tyler.

I dunno, I think using a potentially dismissive term like "chick" as the subject (as opposed to "family" or "children's" or "kids" says a lot about the implications of the term.
This definitely doesn't help.
