It's no different than calling a movie a children's movie or a family film. It's just an identifier used to describe the general audience the movie is aimed at. The people who keep trying to shove "romance and love" into the definition is what's maddening, as if that's the only thing that attracts women to something....someone's definition of a chick flick, a term that is rather ridiculously vague to begin with?
Why? That's how the human brain works. The use of categories, archetypes, and stereotypes is one of the many reasons you've managed to survive since birth. It's a great, funny film. This insane need to constantly fit all art into genres is so limiting.

The people who think such things are ridiculous or, even worse, insulting are the ones who are self-delusional and crazy.
We're apparently not going to call Enrique to see if he wants tickets for opening night.![]()
Just trick him, like they did with Bridesmaids. We're apparently not going to call Enrique to see if he wants tickets for opening night.![]()

They're hugging all the time, though. If they ever make a movie it'd be the perfect chick flick. Manly men hugging... a lot.
This strikes me as rather funny. Particularly as men don't like to be seen hugging, especially with other men...![]()

And some people are shit stirrers. There's already a twitter account called Ghostsplaining, which does the job of "RT'ing sad dudes who cannot process that women are ruining their childhood."
And like elsewhere in the internet, a lot (a LOT) of those tweets are echoed in this very thread, and then backtracked to try and save face when they're called out for sexism and hostility against the idea that women can make good stories, or that they also shared in the very same childhood that men grew up with.

But I like old shit.Well, someone's got to keep it fresh. We can't just have the same old shit laying around.

I dunno, I think using a potentially dismissive term like "chick" as the subject (as opposed to "family" or "children's" or "kids" says a lot about the implications of the term. It's no different than calling a movie a children's movie or a family film. This definitely doesn't help. The people who keep trying to shove "romance and love" into the definition is what's maddening, as if that's the only thing that attracts women to something.
I'm telling you, there's nothing manlier than the sweet embrace of a true bear hug. They're hugging all the time, though. If they ever make a movie it'd be the perfect chick flick. Manly men hugging... a lot.

Sadly, my best and oldest buddy is quite averse to PDA, otherwise I would hug him every time we meet.
Heh. "Bear" hugs.
