Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

If they have one character who's more of a scientist, another that's way too into the whole thing, one that's just there for the money, and another who is a sarcastic semi-asshole, is that a direct copy and paste? Or are those just archetypes?

Archetypes.

Word around my friends is a total rejection of the movie, and i mean total.

Not a single second of the movie seen, just the picture of the cast and they are going nuts

Personally i'm more open minded but i have my doubts that they can reach classic levels like the original.

The original was lightning in a bottle. These movies are meant to be fun, engaging, and entertaining. If they accomplish that, I'm happy. Not saying you, but some people will never be pleased unless we resurrect Harold Ramis from the dead. It's not going to happen. People need to get over the fact that this isn't the 1980s, and that new movies based on classic franchises will happen.

I'm a lot more intrigued by this than I was originally. Obviously nothing will ever beat the original film or cast, but if there was ever going to be another movie I think this was the best way to go about it. Instead of trying to force something with the original actors that was just never really meant to be.

Not overly excited but I like the direction it's going. I had originally thought/dreaded a female ghostbusters would mean hot pants and lots of cleavage with the uniforms but this is fairly grounded.

I think each cast member will bring something of themselves to the role the same way Bill Murray is very much Bill Murray in his films. Although I have no idea who most of this cast is.

That's the thing that drives me nuts about fans. If Feig had done everything exactly the same -- costumes, props, car -- people would be bitching, "Well, if they're just doing the same movie all over again, why bother?" Feig changes things up, and everyone's bitching, "That looks nothing like the original!" It's a lose-lose proposition.

The movie will succeed or fail on its own merits, not based upon how much it adheres to or differs from the original. Jesus Christ.

Yup. This is why appealing to hardcore fans of any property is a fool's errand.

Fans will either appreciate it for being different, or be insufferable jerks who refuse to like it because it's different. There's nothing anyone can do about the latter.

I agree, and as I said elsewhere, this is something that Warner Bros. should have taken into consideration when making the movie version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.-that upcoming movie should be set today, not in the '60's.

I'm not a fan of the stripes, but other than that, I really like the picture. After seeing McCarthy in Spy (And Bridesmaids a few years ago), I'm getting a little excited about this.

Yeah, not a big fan of the stripes either, but I suppose I'll grow to like them. Everything else about it though seems pretty good so far.

Come on now, Stripes is great! "Yugoslavia? It's like going to Wisconsin!"

But if Dan Aykroyd and probably Ernie Hudson are having a cameo, why bother to reboot it?
Why not make it a sequel?

If Richard Hatch is appearing in the Battlestar Galactica remake, why bother to reboot it? Why not make it a sequel?
