Ghost Rider 2 moves forward plans to shoot in 2010

David Goyer says the film takes place 8yrs after the first film.
Many have wondered whether the screenplay—which is toning down its hard-R nature for a PG-13 rating—would reboot the "Ghost Rider" franchise...."It's not exactly a reboot," said Goyer, "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"
The "Ghost Rider" sequel is planned to "roll before cameras next year," according to Goyer, who also said that Nicolas Cage is currently still attached to the lead role of Johnny Blaze.
"This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."
As for where that existential place might be, Goyer wouldn't delve into specifics—mainly because he doesn't have to.
"My script is out there on the Internet," he said. "We're not changing much from it. It'll be significantly the same script."

I'm one of those who found the movie passable entertainment. It has flaws for sure but worse has been put to celluloid. It ended in such a way as to set up a much better sequel so I'm optimistic it will be.
I'm not a script reader and I know we have some here that do that. Anyone read this script that Goyer says is online? Opinions?

I enjoyed the 1st movie. wasn't greta but wasn't horrible. A decent enough film. I'll go watch a second one.

I've been a fan of the Ghost Rider comic series for years, I always prefered Blaze but the Ketch storyline was good as well. The current run started by Daniel Way and continued by Jason Aaron is extremely well done.

I'll admit that I thought the film was somewhat dissapointing but it wasn't terrible like I've heard others say. Cage played Blaze well as did Wes Anderson and Peter Fonda in thier respective roles. The only problems I really had was the dialog was sub-par, too many one-liners, the tone was too light and Eva Mendes. Good god that woman was a block of wood.

I haven't read Goyer's script, I think he wrote it about 10 years ago, but I'm glad to hear they are taking the character back down the dark path. It's too bad the studio won't let them go for the "R" rating.

I thought the first movie was average. Nicolas Cage was good for a lighter Blaze. Sam Elliott was awesome even though he was Exposition Guy and nothing else. Peter Fonda rocked. But Wes Bentley and Eva Mendes sucked and the tone was pretty weak as well.

It's too bad the studio won't let them go for the "R" rating.

It's not necessarily all that bad. "Live Free or Die Hard" also had this issue, and I think it amounted to the difference of being able to say "fuck" three times or unlimited times.

I actually kinda liked it. I grew up reading Ghost Rider, I love the character, and it was awesome to see him on the big screen finally after nearly 20 years of waiting for that damn movie. I remember reading an article in Wizard around ohhhh 92 and even then the idea was in the works for a long time.

A darker tone would be okay, Ghost Rider was never about quips and one liners, unless of course they bring in another character. I mean Dead Pool could work LOL. "Hey Ghost Toasties!" "You have the blood of innocents on your hands." "No I don't, its on my gloves. And my boots. Damn innocents gettin' in the way of my bullets for bad guys."

It's really hard to pull of Ghost Rider without creating a rather over the top parody, a real joke in other words. Putting in a little comedy was the solution in the last film though I still think a more serious film could be pulled off if executed correctly but hey I don't have to write or direct it so what do I know.

The level of violence or gore would lead to an "R" rating.

I hope they push this movie to the edge so that people are wondering how-in-the-hell it gets a PG-13 and that the rest of us are richly rewarded by the Unrated version.

Looks like Nicholas Cage needs the cash to buy more Dinosaur skulls.

FYI, apparently he's broke and spent money of all things, Dinosaur skulls

The Daily Beast, in a massive expose about Nic's financials, reports that he has "more than a dozen" houses to his name, two islands in the Bahamas, and somewhere between 30 and 50 cars (depending on who you ask and when). But that's just the tip of the debt-spurring iceberg for Cage.

Just some of Cage's extravagances, as detailed in the article, are:

- The Shah of Iran's Lamborghini, which the actor is said to have bought for $50 million.

- Cage's car collection also includes Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces, Bentleys (yes, those are plural) and a 1955 Jaguar he has on display in his billiards room. Cage is said to have a full-time mechanic on his staff.

- Two yachts and a jet.

- Nic has four California homes: one in Newport Beach, one in Venice Beach, one in Malibu and one in San Francisco. His other homes are in Middletown, Rhode Island, New York City and Las Vegas.

- His residences abroad include a castle near Bath, England, an 11th-century estate in Etzelwang, Germany, and the aforementioned two entire Bahamian islands.

- He once had a massive, rare comic-book collection, which he sold for $1.6 million in 2002.

- In the "pets and wildlife" category of Nicolas Cage's property, he has a handful of purebred dogs, rare birds, a host of lizards, two albino King Cobras, and other, unidentified "creepy crawlies." There's also a dinosaur skull that Nic bought in an auction for $276,000 after a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio.

I liked the original GR. It was no The Dark Knight or Spider-Man 2 but it was way better than Batman & Robin, Elektra and others. I'd have watched a sequel made by the original team but I'll definitely watch a Goyer-directed one.

I enjoyed Ghost Rider somewhat except when the flaming skull guy turned into Nicholas Cage...

I want him to meet Jesus like he did in a 70's comic issue.
