Ghost Recon: Wildlands

I was never a Ghost Recon fan, because I hated having to control the other squad members so I pretty much passed on the earlier games. I decided to check this one out and ended up buying it and it is worth the $60 bucks. HUGE open world map, tons of weapons, vehicles and an interesting story. The best part is it is easy to control your team members (I love the synch fire option) and also you can call in rebel support such as mortar fire to help you out in a jam. Overall I am very pleased with this game, Hopefully future Ghost Recons will be like it.

Hopefully future Ghost Recons will be like it.

I hope not.

The beta was serviceable and am sure with my friends we could have a good time but NOT a great time. The game is more a half baked spiritual successor than a true Ghost Recon game even when compared to Future Solider that was already breaking away from the Ghost Recon mould and original fanbase. GRAW 2 (360) for me is still the game to beat in the franchise that found a way to balance realism/arcade fun.

Wildlands also seems dated in many aspects from poor animations, rigid player movement, stiff aiming (1st person is better than 3rd though), up close textures are more from the end of the 360/PS3 era though the world at large looks better. Ingame physics seem a little laughable at times though open world games to tend to suffer from that. The gunplay is uninspiring to say the least and about as vanilla as you can get with boneheaded stupid AI, that spawns in-game very close to you (in 2017 ffs). Vehicles don't handle particularly well and the game suffers from bland repetition in its mission structure far too earlier.

I was so looking forward to this title and being a fan of Ghost Recon & co-op play, this looked perfect but it seems to have suffered from similar issues The Division suffered from but to a much greater degree. It's a servicable game but once again a UBISOFT downgrade from the initial reveal and a lack of creativity makes this seem less like a AAA release and certainly not one from the current gen of gaming.
