Ghost Hunting Shows

I'm an avid fan of ghost hunting shows and I'm wondering if anyone here likes to watch them, and think if any of it is real or debunked. The two I enjoy the most are Ghost Adventurers and Most Haunted. So far, none of these shows actually caught a glimpse of anything, except in Ghost Adventurers they did a segment about a bar called Brown Mackie's.

Supposedly they caught an image of a shadow in the background, and in Most Haunted, I can't remember which episode, it looked like they filmed some type of "spirit" walking towards a building.

I want to know some people's thoughts on this, do you think it's real or fake?

I believe in ghosts because I have seen them but 99% of the stuff on the shows are crap.

That said Meatloaf was in an episode for some reason and i loved it.

I never knew Meatloaf was on, which show?

How did you have your ghost encounter? I have never personally encountered anything, but I have been to a few supposedly haunted places where I live and even attempted record sounds in my house during the night just to see if anything weird would come up... and nothing :)

Some of the things I don't trust in these shows are the seances, and when things like tables start shaking and what not. You don't know for sure if it's someone moving the tables themselves or what. But it's still fun to watch!

Meatloaf was on Ghost Hunters a few weeks ago. He seemed to be having a blast with Jason and Grant.

I tried watching Most Haunted in the past but gave up on it cos it was so stupid. The jury's still out for Paranormal State and Ghost Adventures. The personalities on those shows haven't clicked with me yet.

As for faking stuff, I am aware that Ghost Hunters does it from time to time; and that's disappointing. Try googling "collargate" to see an infamous example. Their most interesting episode, IMO, was the one where they investigated the St. Augustine Lighthouse. You could just tell how pumped the team was. After the evening was over, Jason and Grant were positively giddy! I've never seen that kind of reaction from them before...or on any episode afterwards. Kinda sad, actually. I guess they're just going through the motions nowadays.

The Florida lighthouse one is the one I always think of when I think of GH's best.

That dark figure up above, looking down at them was freaky!

I wouldn't if you paid me. Not my cup of tea, and can't believe people believe in ghosts!

I don't get your post Antony - do you mean you couldn't be paid any sum of money to go in a creepy old house for ghost hunting, or you wouldn't be paid enough to give your opinion?

Personally I watch the various shows for the entertainment value. Oh and maybe you should give "Ghost Adventures" a shot - the guy is HOT.

I used to reserve a glimmer of belief for ghost hunting shows, but now, not anymore. To me, Most Haunted is obviously fake. Very, very fake. Aside from that, Paranormal State is the Ryan show, and it's been said that Chip Coffee the "Psychic" knows exactly what the details to the case is because he has been briefed, even though he says he hasn't been told by Ryan, which is true, he hasn't been told... by Ryan. I believe that show is fake anyway. Ghost Adventures I saw once, didn't like it. Ghost Hunters, sadly, was the final one on my list that made it's way into the fake category. I had hoped that it wasn't, as I love watching Steve and Tango do their thing (I could just watch Steve and Tango all day), but it's now obvious that Jay and Grant (or at least Grant) fakes stuff and tries to present it as authentic. They lost their spirit, they lost their drive, now they just go through the motions and it's just no fun anymore. So, IMO, all ghost hunting type shows are very fake.

I wouldn't watch them. I just find it... awful!

Now you're talking my language!

Ah, that's why then. I don't really watch Ghost Hunters much, just Most Haunted and Ghost Adventureres. I have seen a couple of episodes of Ghost Hunters on "On Demand" and that show does seem to be pretty bland. I like the crew of the other shows, I just find it funny that if a place is really haunted, that they actually try and communicate with it out in the open...

I like watching Ghost Hunters because the guys do take it seriously and they're just as quick to call B.S. as they are to say "we think something weird is going on". Also, although individual members of TAPS do use terms like spirits and ghosts, the party line remains "paranormal" which doesn't mean ghosts necessarily, just "odd stuff we can't explain".

I also like the show's Dragnet/Law & Order approach, where virtually every episode (at least of the last couple seasons) follows the same pattern and just as you knew Joe Friday would pronounce "This is the city" at some point, so too you could make a good drinking game out of whenever Jason calls for lights out or he and Grant do a fist bump. I have to admit my favorite episodes are the ones done since Kris Williams joined the show. Insert drool smiley here. And the interaction between Steve and Tango is hilarious.

I do think, though, that Ghost Hunters made a mistake early on by not taking this "just the business" approach. I saw a few very early episodes and it was a completely different show, with behind the scenes drama taking away from the actual ghost hunting. It was a smart move on their part to do away with that aspect.

What I don't understand is if you go online there is actual absolute hatred for TAPS being expressed by some people. There's one loser who seems to have devoted himself to posting "TAPS LIES" everytime a clip shows up on YouTube. I just think the show is fun, makes some interesting points here and there, and they've debunked a lot of stuff, too.

I'd actually love to see someone do a movie with these guys, sort of how they did a movie with Steve Irwin.

I can't really comment on the other ghost shows out there because I've never seen them.

I like Ghostly Encounters and Celebrity Ghost Stories because the first one is just ordinary people talking about their personal experiences and the second one is pretty much the same except sometimes I recognize the "celebrity". I'm interested in other people's experiences because I have a story of my own. When something like that happens to you, it makes you examine your belief system. The world seems like a different place to me now, with more possibilities than I used to entertain. If you've never had your world view challenged, then you can remain assured that you know what is and what isn't "real". Even if you don't.

My interest and/or "belief" in ghosts has waned some-what over the years, but I do enjou Ghost Hunters on occasion because the cast is at least interesting and they are usualy pretty quick to call BS on stuff. But there's also been times when they've "caught something" and I've quickly figured out how it happened due to a failure or inexperience with their equipment.

Or it was staged. Which they have been known to do.
As for the debunking, they're lazy about that too, anymore. They only half heartedly debunk something, and as said earlier, they just go through the motions.

Yeah. I will say the early one Lighthouse episode of theirs was fairly cool and the one(s) they did in some abandoned prison.

The only one I can really stand is Ghost Hunters, everything else just seems way too fake. Jason and Grant and the team seem genuinely sincere about what they are doing, and if they fake a few things now and then, I can probably live with it. I've seen too many of their episodes where absolutely nothing happens, so I can see adding something in there just to keep the audiences interest. Hell, it is TV after all. I agree though, the St. Augustine Lighthouse was a great episode.

Nothing can beat "Dude, run!"

And don't forget the live one(IIRC)with macho black wrestler, Elijah Burke(now known as the Pope DeAngelo DeNero on TNA).

They are all standing at this corner in this hallway and he hears something and actually pushes a chick(IIRC)out of the way to run and get past her in his mad dash to leave!

It was almost that old clichéd black stereotype of "THEM GHOSTESSES IS AFTER ME! FEETS DON'T FAIL ME NOW!!!!"

I laughed my arse off when I saw that.
