A few weeks ago, I heard that the Shuttle and the ISS, would be coming into veiw, the two had just seperated a few hours before. It was totally great they were only a few degrees agart, seeing these two dots blasting across the night sky a for about a minute and they without any warning the first dot vanished, and then about 45 seconds the second dot vanished, made me think of what may be like seeing ship on sensors or even in visual vanish under Cloak, has anyone seen anything cool in the night sky and it looked like a scene from Trek...

Is Shumaker Levy 9 the comet that came close to Earth for several weeks a few years back? I remember seeing it for weeks and weeks. Always thought that looked Trek-ish in a way.

Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with Jupiter in 1994. You're probably thinking of Hale-Bopp, which was visible to the naked eye from Earth for 18 months in 1996 and 1997.

It would look like it does on screen. It would shimmer out of existence.

Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with Jupiter in 1994. You're probably thinking of Hale-Bopp, which was visible to the naked eye from Earth for 18 months in 1996 and 1997.

I am! Thank you! It was amazing being able to see it and its tail with the naked sky.

Haleys was visible for a few MONTHS!? I remember I was a small child and it was palm sunday and seeing the comet, but it was just for that one night. Shoot, I wish I'd known it was still in the sky. That would have been awesome!
