Getting stuck with someone else's crap grammar on fb "Places"

So this is fairly petty, but it bugs the frak out of me...

I'm out and about. I decide to "check in" on facebook using the "Places" feature.

After fb pulls up a list of possible locations, I then either can't find my location or I find a butchered spelling of my location.

I try to "Add a location" by entering the correct spelling.

Fb then tells me that my location already exists, and routes me back to the butchered spelling. In other words, I have to tag in at the bad spelling, or not at all.

This is embarrassing of course, because it looks like I am the person who typed it wrong in the first place.

Sometimes, if I add a little to the name of the place, it ends up being different enough from the badly spelled version that it allows me to add the 'new' location.

Most of the time, however, I get stuck with the bad spelling.

Last week, I was teaching at a college in Los Angeles, and when I tried to tag in, I was forced to use a version of the school's name in which "college" was spelled with a "Q" instead of a "G." Yikes!

Any thoughts on how to get around this bottle neck?

The rest of you can just look for grammar mistakes in my post. :p

^ Although it's unsurprising, given the lack of basic spelling and grammatical ability evident among the general population on FB every day.

I don't do check-ins either. Although mine is more geared off my GPS, and those people, not being your average goober on the street, seem to be able to spell a greater percentage of the time.

I can dismiss the bad grammar/spelling of other fb users, for the most part.

However, when I am forced to use their badly spelled location title, which then ultimately makes it look like I wrote it myself, then I have a problem with it.

^ Can you do it off of your GPS though...and post it into Facebook?

I have only done it once...but once when I was at a Braves Game at Turner Field, I was able to pull it up through some GPS program and post it to FB sort of like a regular FB post.

I think.

It's been a while so I could be full of crap. It WAS broiling hot, and I WAS drinking beer, after all.

But surely there is some way of doing this that does not rely on the educational abilities of your average Facebook denizen......
