Getting An iMac--Now or Two Months Down?

Last week I took delivery of a 24" iMac. Lovely machine - it is huge though. I need to re-engineer my desk to get it a bit lower... (my old PC had a mere 18" screen, which was fine sat on a ledge, but this thing is just huge! Had I mentioned that? :D )

This one has the 2.8GHz processor and 1Tb of disc space. Should last a while. A lovely machine.

The keyboard is ok - I generally prefer clunky keys, but I'm getting used to this. Had no problems with the keyboard wire (went for the wireless Mighty Mouse - I read somewhere that Apple plan on introducing a wireless keyboard in the next few months that is basically the same as the one that ships with the iMac) but the power lead is a bit too short for me. Had to use an extension for it. Not a big problem. :)

^ There is already a wireless version of the 'aluminum' keyboard. Unfortunately, it's smaller than the wired version, and doesn't have a numeric keypad.

I just had a 20-inch iMac that I ordered delivered today. So far I'm enjoying it immensely, and I'm finding it very easy to use (except for the damn mouse that I'm about ready to introduce to a brick wall for a short but intense relationship).

^ Why do you hate the mouse?

(You mean the Mighty Mouse, yes? AFAIK, it's the only one Apple still makes)

What's wrong with it?

There's a right click? I thought it was all one button.

And does anyone know why, although the screen still goes black, the actual animations for the screensaver won't appear anymore? This is a more recent bug for me; it always did it before.

The Mighty Mouse can have up to four.

It's all programmable through software. You can configure it for 'one' or 'left/right' click.

And if the latter, you don't have to lift your left finger to right click...

Actually it turned out to be more of a mousepad issue. At first, if I moved the mouse just a little bit, the cursor would go flying off every which way (and the curser was about to do the same ;)), but when I replaced the mousepad with a spare from work everything started working smoothly .

What a good thing you didn't introduce the mouse to the wall for their brief relationship then :)

Is the Mighty Mouse as hard to clean (the scroll wheel) as everyone says it is?

I wish Apple still made the regular mouse...

Yeah, It's a good thing that I didn't let my frustration get the better of me . . . besides, I never was any good as a matchmaker. :p
