German keeper commits suicide

CommanderRaytas

DISCO QUEEEEEEN

Man, I just read it on Yahoo: Robert Enke, German national keeper and Hannover 96 player committed suicide. That's a huge shock, he was a hero for all sports fans around here, and a symbol for courage- a few years back, he lost a child. Everybody loved him.

This is so depressing, and really and genuinely makes me sad.

Rest in peace, Robert.

Isn't it awful? God that makes me so sad. He was such a nice guy. I went to a million 96 matches.

His poor wife.

It's so horrible wondering how bad he must have felt, and nobody was able to help him.

When I heard of this, I was totally shocked. I cannot begin to understand how horrible this must be for his wife. They'd just adopted a child in May.

I'm also somehow mad at Enke. Comitting suicide is always a very egoistic act, but throwing yourself in front of a train is even worse.
Because you don't actually kill yourself, you make someone else do it for you against their will.
Lots of train drivers quit or had to go into therapy because of this shit.

Yeah that's a common reaction. I just think that he must have been so unhappy, that he just lost it; people who kill themselves are not in their right minds.

The thing with people throwing themselves in front of trains is awful. I commute every day, and it has happened a number of times. That's a lot worse than, I don't know, swallowing pills. I get the anger about people doing this, because someone has to clean up afterwards (no matter how you kill yourself).

I still can't believe Enke is dead. He was everyone's hero.

I've been living in Hannover for a while now, and I saw him live several times. People around here admired him a lot, what with him supposedly overcoming the death of his child three years ago. He and his wife had just adopted a little girl a few months back. Wow I'm gobsmacked. Nobody had a clue. He just seemed to be doing fine.

Well, you cannot look at peoples hearts. It took us all by surprise. Funny is, what made it real for me was seeing Bierhoff cry.

Sorry to hear this; we have people throwing themselves in front of Metra trains every year it seems like. Death by commuter train; it's not nice for the engineers either.

No it's awful. This happens a lot before Christmas. Heck, I'm a commuter, and I witness stuff like that every year. Thing is, nobody expected a national icon to do such a thing. The whole nation is in shock.

There will be a memorial service at the football stadium tomorrow, which I and a couple of friends plan to attend. So sad. :(

Yeah sure, over a hundred thousand people are expected. I think we owe it to Robert and to ourselves to honour his memory... and to say a last goodbye.

The look on his wifes face tells it all. If it wasn't for the fact that he was suffering and couldn't think straight. I would be pissed of at him.

It was a very beautiful service. Everyone cried, it was just the horror of it.... poor Teresa Enke. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that Robert is dead and gone.

He suffered from clinical depression, it wasn't his fault.

Anyway, we got to say goodbye to a great human being and exceptional football player. I hope he's okay wherever he is now.

...also, this whole thing makes you reconsider a lot how you treat people, what you expect of them, of yourself.... and that sometimes, it's okay to not be all right.
