German christmas markets

I'm not aware of a Christmas market being held anywhere in my vicinity. Seems as if there ought to be at least a small one, given that there's long been an active German community in the Beaumont/Banning area just down the road, but I know of nothing.

There hasn't been one in Exeter, the city centre closest to me, for two years, and I'm bummed about it. I loved the German market in previous years. On the up side there's a farmer's market every Thursday morning with plenty of tempting goodies, including local real ale.
I'm always in favor of real ale. :techman:

I love the ones in Germany best. They have things you can't get at our ones in the UK. However I would say the UK ones are getting better every year. I love zwiebel kooken. I have not seen that here yet. I am in Germany a lot because my girlfriend and kids live there. Love the place!

I live in Germany and naturally we have a Christmas Market around our city landmark building, the Watertower.

It's by no means the biggest or most famous one but we have some pretty old ones here dating back hundreds of years.

It's just something special to get together with friends on a cold evening, having a hot wine and something to eat. My family has discovered this one eating booth where they make a steak in a bun with some fried onions so soft and delicious you just want to eat it all day. It's really that good!

Here is a picture of it (the market.. not the steak ;))

I hopped over to Germany twice this winter with my girlfriend. We went to the markets in Oldenburg (loads of good eatin' there) and Leer.

Christmas markets are pretty ubiquitous along the Dutch-German border, so we also visited one in an old mining complex in Valkenburg (Netherlands). Pretty neat, all those stalls in a chalk mine.

Huntington Beach has the German-themed Old World Village, which is decorated in the time-honored Bavarian tradition of stucco and Mission-style roof tiles. It's just like a Bavarian village, only if it was designed by Spanish missionaries living in 1950s California suburbia.

It has a market, restaurant, chapel, Dachshund races (called the WienerNationals ;)), kick-ass Oktoberfest, and dresses the German market up for Christmas. Most of the year it's just overpriced and underpopulated, though.
