The Hollywood Reporter says George Wendt died peacefully in his sleep at home, his family confirmed early Tuesday morning. He was best known for playing Norm Peterson for all 11 seasons of "Cheers."

Wendt appeared in movies including Dreamscape (1984), House (1985), Fletch (1985), Gung Ho (1986), Plains Clothes (1987), Never Say Die (1988), Guilty by Suspicion (1991), Forever Young (1992) and Spice World (1997). He also appeared on Saturday Night Live, as a fan of "Da Bears."

He will be missed. :weep:

Norm Peterson was the inspiration for Star Trek's Morn (Morn is an anagram of "Norm").

Morn sat at Quark's Bar nursing a beer, just as Norm did at Cheers.

I think Morn should have gotten the last word in DS9, kind of like how the Home Improvement finale finally showed Wilson's face.

RIP Mr. Wendt. One of the more historic characters I've seen in TV.

Rest in peace Mr. Wendt.

This was always one of my favorites from Norm:

Im extremely saddened by this. I was so hoping for a mini cheers reunion if we ever got more Frasier. Without George it would not be the same.

For those that haven't seen it here is his last Interview and appearance last August. On Ted and Woody's podcast. It was an excellent interview and the story of How George and Woody first met was pretty funny. ..
