The headline for that trekmovie.com article states: "Rumor Control: George Takei NOT Appearing As Sulu In New Star Trek Movie". So my inside info that he is playing Checkov in the new movie could still be correct.
hey can I quote you on that (on deep background of course)

Yeah, go ahead. There is no risk of losing credibility on that one.

But the site wrote: "Takei is in the new movie and it will be a brief Flash Foreword scene between him and Spock."

What does it mean?

It means they're pulling information out of their ass. Although it has been confirmed that Leonard Nimoy is playing Spock, there has been no confirmation on how Nimoy's Spock is going to be in the movie. We don't know if it's flash forwards, time travel, holodecks, or what.

(I'm inclined to think time travel simply because Nimoy has said that old Spock is a very important part of the story. Time travel is the only way I can think of to make old Spock truly integral to the story.)

I really don't want to see this turn into a parade of TOS actors having cameos. Makes (and I've said this before) the galaxy appear to have, like, 30 people in it.

No, there's actually 47. ;)

He can be integral to the story as a hologram from the future.

A hologram from the future that only Johnathan Archer can see and hear. Spock can use a tricorder to observe how John is altering the timeline. With any luck, they may be able to put right what once went wrong. Maybe even get John back home to his own time.

Nah.

Everyone knows that Captain Jonathan Archer never returned home, but that Spock, his wife, and his three daughters all lived happily ever after.

Carey Scott portrayed an infant Spock in Star Trek V, and Genesis-regenerated versions of Spock at 9, 13, 17, and 25 years of age in Star Trek III were portrayed by Carl Steven, Vadia Potenza, Stephen Manley, and Joe W. Davis, respectively. Spock’s screams in that film were provided by Frank Welker.

Frank Welker did Spock's screams in III? Boy, Freddie gets around, huh? :)

It would be nice to see Mr. Takei in the next film, unlike Spock and Quinto, the new successor doesn't resemble that much. Not that Takei could do it with makeup, but his voice...
