George Takei in Star Trek XI. I said it before!

According to the lastest issue of Starburst magazine, which features an exclusive interview with TOS actor George Takei, he will appear in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie.
No word if Takei will be playing an older Hikaru Sulu or other character.

I guessed he would play Admiral or a capitain Nogura.

But the site wrote: "Takei is in the new movie and it will be a brief Flash Foreword scene between him and Spock."

What does it mean?

Not sure I believe it. Or, rather, I'm not sure I want to believe it. I don't mind Nimoy if Older Spock is integral to the story, but I really don't want to see this turn into a parade of TOS actors having cameos. Makes (and I've said this before) the galaxy appear to have, like, 30 people in it.

Minimize cameos and get right to the story, please.

(Of course, I don't know how Takei will actually be used. Could be OK, but I'm skeptical, especially if other cameos start piling up.)

The old Sulu will be way too old to be in this movie. Takei is going to play Checkov.

Wow, the build up to the movies are so much more entertaining when even the magazines and "reliable" sources are being forced into blindly guessing information.

Hopefully he won't be in the movie.

Otherwise his hypocrisy would have grown even further.

I'm glad he'll be in the movie -- "Star Trek" just isn't the same without the original cast.

The headline for that trekmovie.com article states: "Rumor Control: George Takei NOT Appearing As Sulu In New Star Trek Movie". So my inside info that he is playing Checkov in the new movie could still be correct.
