Have you ever noticed there are so many Star Wars characters that we as fans know their names but they were never spoken or established on screen?
I for one find that annoying, just having random people show up and not telling me who they are. Are these established in script or made up for the expanded universe to sell toys?

Most, if not all of them had names in the scripts. And I enjoyed it because a series of endless introductions would have seemed fake. Is knowing Lobot's name really that important to the story of ESB?
 
Mon Mothma is mentioned by name in ROTJ, so was Gen. Dodonna in ANH.

What's annoying is when the names are mentioned and fans don't pay attention.
It's not like we've all only seen Star Wars just once.
 
Every single character that you see on screen in a Star Wars movie has a name. That's not a joke. Every single one of them.

And if you want proof, I think you should take a look at who, besides Anakin and Obi-Wan, was at that nightclub on Coruscant. Here. Unbelievable.

They tell you Mon Mothma's name in ROTJ.

Some of the names have changed. Characters like "Prune Face," "Hammerhead" and "Walrus Man" now have backstories and proper names in the "extended universe." And they're canon now. I for one am glad no one ever mentioned "Walrus Man" by name in the original trilogy.:lol:
 
It's the baby-talk sounding names invented years after the original trilogy that annoy me, along with the backstory that usually has to tie in with something significant (why can't they just be drunks, nobodies and losers?). Googoo Gaga, a Spendarian, was a bounting hunter spy smuggler working for the Rebels. He's in love with Bublub Smeegee, who is also smuggling bounty hunter spy working for the Empire. (Because almost everyone in the Mos Eisley cantina was a smuggler, bounty hunter or spy.)

Dr. Evazan...fucking scarred cretin hanging out with walrus dude, picking fights with local farmers, and some fanwanking shitheel decides "Dr. Evazan" is a good name/alias for him.

That and the 3 races of "Klatoonians" crap to explain some supposed mislabelling of Jabba's disposable henchmen.

And to hell with special edition Sy Snootles. "LET'S GIVE HER CARTOON EYES!"
 
I remember thinking a few years ago that they never say 'Ewok' in RotJ.

When do they mention Mon Mothma's name? I couldn't remember hearing it and I checked a script online...it's not in the dialogue that I can find. (same for Dodonna)

never heard ewok or wickett for that matter. I dont know when Mon Mothma's name is spoken in ROTJ

If I remember correctly, they indroduce her by name before she makes her speech about the Bothan spies. Dodonna's is mentioned in the pilots room when showing the schmatics for the Death Star run. You'll have to listen closely because it's said while others are talking.

... I wonder whether the same applies to the audience in the Pod Racing stadium in Phantom Menace... I'd hate to be the poor sod responsible for naming all of them! ;) :devil:
 
some of the goofy names like 'prune face', 'yak face' et al were the make up department's names for them as they didn't know who the were.

some of the names are from the toys, some are from scipts or adaps - including the radio adaptations or the novelisations.

some of the names are from latter-day novels or comics or what have you.
 
Didn't "Family Guy: Blue Harvest" establish "Walrus Man" to be Scott, from Hoth? That's canon, isn't it? :lol:
