Comics Legend George Pérez Died Yesterday, Aged 67| Bleeding Cool

So it happened. And just after Neal Adams. Two of the greatest comics artists of all time in a single week. With George, though, at least we've had time to prepare ourselves.

Fuck.

I'll just repost what I wrote back in December, I'm not capable of finding better words just now:

Truly sad news. What his work means to me personally I can hardly put into words. JLA/Avengers is my all-time favorite comic book, working as a brilliant sequel to his Crisis on Infinite Earths. His run on Wonder Woman is probably my favorite run by any creator on any book. One of the earliest Superman comics I read was one from his post-Crisis run (the one where he returned to Earth after his exile), making his Superman one of the most impressing to a very young me. And a few years ago I thrilled at his creator-owned Sirens.

Not to mention that, whenever I saw him in interviews and media appearances, he appeared like one of the nicest people to be around. like on Comic Book Men where he drew an original piece of art to help one of the CBM restart his collection after he lost his entire previous one to a hurricane-caused flood at the time.

So I'm not just a fan of the man's work, I'm a fan of the man himself.

I heard about 20 minutes ago. Darn it, we all knew this was coming but still...

RIP. He’s my all time favorite comic artist. Ever since The New Teen Titans came out so this really hurts. Even though I new it was coming it’s still hurts.

Damn, this has not been a good week for the comic book industry. RIP.

Thank you for the new thread, Kai.

When I first encountered the work of George Perez, I had no idea who he was, what he had already done, or how influential he would become. I just liked the look of the art he was giving us. All the rest would play out for years to come, with COIE, Wonder Woman, the Avengers reboot, Crimson Plague (one I wish had continued), JLA/Avengers, etc. showing us that he had both the artistic chops, and the motivation to give us his best work. I'm glad I got the opportunity to read and enjoy everything of his that I have seen. His like will not come again.

Yeah, this one sucks. At least he knew how much his fellow artists and fans loved and admired him given the outpouring of tributes during his final months.

Every so often the wonder of the universe is distilled through either one or another artist. I wish I could have known such savants.

He was always a nice guy, and an open conversationalist. In addition to his legend-making work on Crisis on Infinite Earths, obviously, he was a stellar talent on The New Teen Titans, The Avengers and so much more. To that point--

Just one of his typical classics was his work with Klaus Janson on the LOGAN'S RUN comic adaptation.

Easily one of the best adaptations of a film.

Some did not know it, but he incorporated a few of the original novel's details into the film adaptation, but it merges so seamlessly that you would only recognize it if you read the novel. He was clever and so detail-oriented in that way.

On to the next adventure, George.

There is probably not one comic fan from the 80's who did not know who George was. I was lucky enough to meet him briefly about 6 years ago. I got my COIE #1 autographed by him. Alsoa friend and I took a picture with him. My friend also got his blank cover wonder woman done by him. Super nice guy. I also met Neal and he was super nice as well.

RIP George Perez. An amazing artist, I'd consider him the undisputed king of group shots in comics, and great at telling the stories, too.

I would really like to see those Logan's Run issues in some form of Collected Edition; along with Jack Kirby's 2001: A Space Odyssey adaptation.

One of the all-time greats. It's sad to see him gone, but it feels a little better that he got to see just how loved he was before he went. The outpouring of love since the announcement of his diagnosis has been great to see.

RIP, George. Thank you for all of the great stories and characters.
