George and Winona

Jimmy: Mom, is that you?

Winona.: There, there, now, just relax. You've been asleep for almost 9 hours now.

Jimmy: I had a horrible nightmare, dreamed I went back in time, it was terrible.

Jimmy: Well, you're safe and sound, now, back in good old 2233.

Jimmy: 2233?

Hey, that looks like Andre Braugher to the right of young Jim Kirk! If so, he's making a new career out of playing military roles, like in Fantastic Four 2. -- RR

By all accounts, it looks like we're going to get some Tarsus IV scenes, what with the casting of these young actors who happen to be around the right age for when, as others have point out, the Tarsus incident occurs.

Those are definitely some scenes I'm looking forward to. What an interesting chapter in Kirk's life.

I think the last times the Tarsus IV incident was shown was "A Flag Full of Stars" (The only part I liked. Hey, Riley was in it. ), and "Enterprise Logs" (April's Enterprise has showdown with Kor, on route to Tarsus IV. Kruge was bumbling idiot.)

^ Coincidence. AFAIK, Nero is a
Romulan
.

Fuckin stupid name for a Romulan.

:vulcan:

Yes, considering that the Romulans are an obvious riff on Roman and considering that there have been Romulans with Roman-like names, Decius for example. Yeah, really fucking stupid.

I admit, though, we only have *rumors* that Nero is a Romulan. All we know for sure is that he is called Nero, that Eric Bana is playing him, and he's the villain of the piece. Beyond that, nothing.

Time travel? Maybe. Romulan? Maybe. But not surely.

You know, I've never thought of that. One of the producers did confirm that there was time travel, but we are just assuming Romulan because of the name. That's actually pretty funny.

Yeah, maybe I was right!

But if he is a Roman it just smacks of Lucas-ism. How many of you decrying what I said above refer to "Walrus Man", "Snaggle Tooth" or "Hammerhead" from the original SW? No. You probably refer to them as Oolie Frabooble, Methulam Croom and YUJHDSG jHWplAjh or whatever the fuck the hack writers from the SW EU have decided their names are.

Calling the lead Romulan "Nero" is akin to referring to the fat pilot in SW as "Porkins". It's infantile, simplistic and "on the nose", or too obvious.

...Umm, that's how fighter pilot nicknames tend to be. :vulcan:

It looks like we're going to get some Tarsus IV scenes...

...And I hope those scenes will put some sense to the events that was so blatantly lacking from the portrayal in "The Conscience of the King".

How can Kirk and Riley be

"Of all survivors [..] actual eye witnesses who can identify Kodos"

when there were 4,000 survivors to the massacre?

Or more accurately, how is it possible that they were the only

"eye witnesses who survived the massacre who'd actually seen Kodos with their own eyes"

and why should this matter when there are photographs (authentic or previously created from witness statements) and voice recordings of Kodos in existence, as shown in the episode?

Plenty of ways to make sense of this. Plenty of ways to drop the ball entirely...

(Also, anybody willing to bet against Kodos killing at least one of Kirk's parents?)

A Tarsus IV sequence could be a great part of the film. If done well it would be an explanation of a key moment in the life of Kirk. Kirks belief in the sanctity of life and his desire to protect those weaker would obviously flow from such an experience.

...A good motivation for him to join Starfleet, the supposed savior of the remaining 4,000.
