Geographically Restricted eBooks

So I love to read new Star Trek books on the eReader on my iPhone -- it's the best way to get these books here in Germany, and I like ebooks anyway.

Today, I saw that "Losing the Peace" was available. But for the first time, when I tried to buy it, I got this message in big red letters:

The eBook you just added to your cart has geographic rights restrictions. The billing country on your credit card indicates that you do not have the right to purchase this eBook due to rights restrictions by the Publisher of the eBook. Please either remove it from your cart or purchase with a credit card whose billing address is in the USA or Canada.
I feel that that is a crying shame. Restrictions such as these are common for hulu, itunes vid and the like, where German broadcasters want to have the exclusive chance to show us American TV series they bought (and then go on to ruin them with awful synchronization). But I can't see why anyone would profit from stopping my purchase of the American book. It's not as if most of these books are ever translated into German, and like most readers of the English version, I'm not interested in reading a translation anyway.

Does anyone have any idea why TPTB would change their policy this way? Or better yet, does someone know of a way to buy these ebooks outside the US after all?

I think BooksOnBoard is cheaper overall then Diesel.

I did a compare for another forum of ePub edition Star Trek eBooks from BOB vs. Amazon and Amazon came out to for $85.89 and BOB was $83.89 with $2.08 left over in rewards.
