Geneviève Bujold, The Original Janeway..

Both those scenes make me think Bujold would have made a good Vulcan (ie: the "calm & collected" from earlier). In the Ready Room scene she seems more "Vulcan" than Tuvok.
Except the hand gestures of course. Very un-Vulcanlike.

You must be the only object on planet Earth with the ability to draw breath that has ever had that particular opinion. Bujold was terrible.

Bujold was perky and cute in "Earthquake", intelligent and interesting in "Coma", disturbingly intriguing in "Dead Ringers" - and made to look so... matronly in VOY. That greying, old-fashioned hairstyle was so unflattering, and she (and Nicole Janeway!) really did look like she'd rather be anywhere else than on that set.

Based on tha clip, they did the right thing recasting her. Wooden, dull and sleepy. She sounds like she's falling asleep. I couldn't have been able to watch her for seven years, and I have a newfound appeal for Mulgrew.

That Betazed ensign from Caretaker is a little hottie.

^ That would be Stadi (the Betazoid ensign). And she is beautiful. :)

I saw recently an old CSI episode where the actress played some freaky human flesh eating crazy person and I was like "Stadi, WTF?!"

:p

I remember Stadi the most from Jericho now. She was the evil IRS lady trying to take the farmer's farm.

It's interesting that if Bujold had worked out better, she would have been the SECOND Canadian actor to have been cast as the Captain in a Star Trek series. Canucks are sure busy in the future....:)

I actually came back just to create this topic. Seeing it created . . . I have to say I now respect and admire Kate Mulgrew more than I did before. Geneviève Bujold disappeared into the background and frankly, didn't display the command or leadership necessary for the lead in a series or a Starfleet captain.

That said she had a haunting accent. She reminded me of this Minbari chick from Lost.

I wonder how Susan Gibney would have been as Janeway, not that I didn't love Kate in the role. Leah Brahms was a cool character. Geordie thought so anyway.

Rick Berman really makes me think he had no idea what he was doing running Star Trek.

For starters, if you watch the footage of Bujold as Janeway you'll see firsthand she hasn't the least bit of charisma in her acting. Maybe she has shown more in other roles, but for Janeway, wow, it was BADDDDD.

To hear Rick Berman say ""She's (Bujold's) a very very good actor and I'm sure that if we had been doing a motion picture she would've been phenomenal." said Berman "But there was enough going on in that first day or two that we realized that for everybody's sake it was best to go in another direction." was what made me realize he had no idea what he was doing.

Right Rick, so a woman who showed you she possessed no acting ability in a Sci-Fi TV show, would have just been PHENOMENOL in a Trek motion picture. Dear god man.

This fool ran Trek into the ground, and this is just one of the subtle ways you can see his incompetance.

Or perhaps Berman was being polite and professional and not badmouthing the woman in public.

What should he have said? "Dear,God, she sucked! We had to fire her ass!"
