Geneviève Bujold questions.....

Would that have been such a bad thing if it had? Voyager was another sign of Rick Berman's mishandling of the Star Trek property.

We would have missed a lot of great Trek episodes, so it would have been a bad thing.

The only good episode out of Voyager was the episode concerning Tuvok's service under Captain Hikaru Sulu on the U.S.S. Excelsior.

As for the rest, like TNG(after Roddenberry passed away), DS9, and Enterprise some years later, there wasn't anything good about Voyager.

Those useless spinoffs definately accelerated the process of franchise fatigue and other factors that nearly led Star Trek to its end.

Instead of Rick Berman, Paramount should have had either Majel or Rod Roddenberry run the franchise. At least they would have kept a tighter leash on it and not let it spiral out of control like that SOB Berman did.

Huh? How did it spiral out of control? Did Star Trek go on a week-long bender, get caught sending lewd pictures of itself on Twitter, or blow a .35 BAC after cracking up its Porsche in Malibu?

A lot of people like what you call the "useless spinoffs," and some of them prefer them to the original series, which is still there for you to enjoy. I don't see how less of Trek makes anyone happy.

I don't think Expo67 likes Rick Berman very much:lol:.

Because, y'know, Trek never ever made a mis-step until he came along;).

I'm going to sort of echo the oddness of the perception that this actress was a "big name." Maybe to the studio, and I'm sure she has a long list of credits as any steadily working actor actress would after a while, but I'm not sure she qualifies as a big name.

IIRC, and don't ask me for the source, Robert Beltran took the Chakotay role mainly for the opportunity to work with Ms Bujold.

Yeah, it's not like it got canceled or anything like that. His stewardship of the original series set the bar for television production for years to come.

She was pretty icy as Janeway but I do think part of that was how her scenes were filmed. Mulgrew was a warmer persona onscreen and the refilmed scenes were better directed in my mind.

I agree with that, and her scenes were missing the post-production gloss as well. There was no music or ship "white noise," and the dialogue was fairly muffled.

EDIT: Shatnertage - ZING.

Hang on; if everything produced after Roddenberry passed away was terrible, what was the victim which was "nearly led to its end"?

There were so many boddddieeeeeeeeeees!

Seriously though, the scene where Bujold talks about Harry and his clarinet.... oh my god.... yeah, she was definitely in the wrong role.

That said, she was adorable back in the day.

In case anyone needs a recap. This edit has the background music and effects edited it which gives you a rough idea of how it would've been in the finished episode.

Yeah as you can see she gives a very flat performance. I think we can all agree that Kate Mulgrew was ultimately the better choice.

Found this via spalko's tumblr. Just had to share here:
