Genesis of Genesis

The very fact that a random element, Khan, got his hands on it to begin with is proof that the project should never have been done in secret. It almost started a war. And the argument that it was "better in the hands of Starfleet than anyone elses" doesn't add up since A; it ended up in Khan's hands, and B; Starfleet always seems to have rogue elements associated with it...

David Marcus and Carol Marcus concerns in the movie are very real. If they had doubts about the military getting their hands on it, then that is proof to me that even they, citizens in the future, are worried about the motives of Starfleet..

I agree, but would raise you a sizeable fleet of starships deployed to protect the Regula outpost.

Nope...I would have first made sure that creating such a project was acceptable to the other galactic powers...and if it was, then ask them to assist...

then youre an idiot. im gonna give you all a little history lesson here.

during WWII the USA military and scientists were working on a nuclear bomb. month and months of work and finally a weapon is developed. all in secret mind you. well at least it was supossed to be. do you know what Stalin said when the USA told him of the a-bomb? basically he said "yeah we know what you got".

to assume the klingons and the romulans didnt know from their own sources about genesis is to be nieve. of course they knew. their people might not have known, even people in their military might not have known, but those organizations in chrage would have known.

fast forward to after hiroshima and nagasaki. WWII is over and the cold war has started. the USSR can use the knowledge of this new device that was dropped in Japan as propoganda against the USA. not living in russia i dont know how much they used the A-bomb as anti-USA propoganda but im sure they did.

this is exactly what the klingons did. genesis became a galactic controversry. probably the same way that the a-bomb did in the United Nations. the strict laws put on the materials needed to create a weapon like that are the prime example. one would assume that the same laws were put on the genesis materials. a treaty perhaps? one to prevent mutual annihilation?

Let the idiot educate you..again.

The Federation isn't the peaceful little organization you seem to think it is. Rogue Admirals, plots to kill their own Federation President, and you trust this military that GR warned us about TREK MOVIES turning it into??? What Star Trek have YOU been watching. Ever heard of section-31?

The GENESIS DEVICE is exactly what SDI is now...it can be seen as a first strike weapon. In fact, Kruge is right..its the most destructive weapon ever created, and star fleet couldn't even keep it guarded from some bozo who had been frozen for 200 years...

What sets the Federation apart, or what uses to set it apart from the Romulans/Klingons, is that we don't do things like that. The fact that we have our own tal'shiar, and our own rogue elements in the military, tells me that the Federation is not that shining light on the hill to aspire to be...

ok then im going to tell you exactly what would happen if you asked the other powers to assist you. the three great factions scientists are working together in a research facility in say zeta star system. research is progressing nicely but eventually an impase comes up. romulan scientist makes a breakthrough; he sends word to his government of the breakthrough. his government comes back and says not to inform the other scientists. government takes the breakthrough research and sends it to the secret research group they have working on the same project without the knowledge of the other two powers.

the alliance of scientists struggle for months trying to get passed the impasse. meanwhile the romulan secret research program has already developed the breakthrough into a weapon. romulan government recalls their scientists because of some made up excuse about it not being worth the resources anymore. whats the outcome?

federation and klingon scientist take another year(s) to make the same breakthrough the romluan scientist did. the romulans, however, because of the shared information from the feds and klingons now have a weapon ready and waiting.

my problem with your ideal is that it takes place in a perfect universe yet you actually contradict that by brining up section-31 and everything that took place in ST6. do you really believe that the klingons and romulans will be that honorable to share all information gathered by researching together? do you really believe these groups will adhere to any temporary exchange of information? i highly doubt it.

if you dont think that would happen i invite you to watch the movie Pirates of Sillicon Valley
