Genesis Enterprise from DS

I collect the DST ships. I absolutely love them. I've really probably got a problem because I'm obsessed with them.

That said, I don't think I'll be buying this. I wonder what marketing data led them to believe this would be a good variant.

:ack:

If you ask me, I would have been perfectly fine with another Star Trek III: The Search For Spock Enterprise with all the battle damage. Only this time WITHOUT the destroyed bridge and melting saucer section. You know? A pre self-destruct battle damaged Enterprise.

What we got here? Can't really get behind it. The forward part of the saucer section SHOULD BE GONE! For the last clear shot of the general shape of the Enterprise, more respect should have been given.

I've got a few billion things ahead of it on my list, but I am happy at least that they're still producing the "clean" version of the ship. I got one of the first run, but a lot of the plastic took on a yellow cast when it was in storage for a few months, and I've been thinking about replacing it with one that's less jaundiced, once I've bought literally everything else I might ever need to buy.

It's just a cash grab, a cheep repaint so they can sell another one to the people who already have one of the other versions.

It's inaccurate rubbish. I only bought two of their previous ones for little one when sales put them in acceptable price range for a toy to play with...because ultimately, none of them are display quality models, they are toys. And this one is neither. It's toot.

So... did anyone get one? Or know anyone who got one? I haven't been able to find anything.

They're all over eBay at the usual inflated prices.

That said, I just found a Wrath of Khan battle damage variant for under $100 on eBay ( not the one with the damage saucer, which I always call the TSFS variant). I'm amazed at the quality of this one. I've seen a lot of reviews on other (non exclusive) releases of the TWOK Enterprise, and they are typically trash. Mine is extremely well put together, the paint apps are very good, and the light bleed is nothing like what I've seen online. It also has a pretty cool weathered look to it, which I believe is a unique paint app for this ship(refit Enterprise). It's not perfect, but it is definitely very nice. It's amazing how screen accurate the battle damage is!

For anyone looking for a good version of theTWOK refit enterprise, I would highly recommend you be patient and wait for a good deal for this exclusive version on eBay. It is well worth it

I had the Enterprise Refit when Art Asylum was still their own thing. It featured no voice lines from the movie and featured sound effects that were from other Star Trek productions and not from the movies. So when I got the Diamond Select TWOK Battle Damage Edition made by Diamond, I compared the two.

I don't know if it's because the plastic is thinner or if it's a different kind of plastic all together, but the light bleed on TWOK is horrendous compared to the AA's original release. At least the handling of the plastic on that ship was solid. Take the impulse engines for example. On the Art Asylum, it was focused on the actual vents. On Diamonds, the whole bloody area surrounding the impulse engines lights up. It's just... Ick.

Thankfully Diamond Select rectified this when they released their version of the 1701-A with a plastic material that is more like the Art Asylum rendition. Here's hoping their next wave of TWOK Enterprises follows suit.

I own both the original 2003 Art Asylum Enterprise-A and (now) the Battle Damage TWOK release.

I have a different feel for it, though. Yes, the plastic on the TWOK version allows for some light-bleed, but I don't think it's thickness. The type and color of the plastic is an attempt (and a good one) in my opinion to recreate the metallic pearlescent look of the ship in the TMP/TWOK timeframe. I think, in achieving that look (which I really love)...the sacrifice is that the plastic isn't as much of a solid color.

Since the lights and sound effects are only something I play with on very rare occasion...I'm not really concerned about light bleed. I consider those features to be nice novelties, not anything I care too much about.

I actually think that the TWOK Battle Damage is my favorite DST ship. I own the Ent-A, the Excelsior (TUC version), the Ent-E (NEM version), the Ent-D (original release) and the Romulan BOP. They are all pretty awesome...but my issue of the Battle Damage TWOK Enterprise is definitely my favorite.

Once you get past the light bleed (which again...I don't care about because I don't use the lights and sound features for anything other than to amuse my young boys)...the paintjob is incredible on this one. It's not as contrast-y with the blues and greys around the neck and the deflector array. It's much more screen-accurate than any other version I've seen. As I've mentioned, the hull color is very screen-accurate for a toy. The sensor lines on the rim of the saucer are painted and finely detailed (I don't think any other version has this). The windows are painted black and are NOT sloppy on mine. The weathering actually looks very cool (and I'm a fan of the clean look). I have no glue blobs anywhere. And, it's totally solid...no gaps or wiggles or wonky nacalles...even my Art Asylum Ent-A cannot boast that.

The problem I have with the 2003 release is that it was so featureless and bland. If you look at the "Memorabilia" thread, you'll see I needed to spend hours on end with a micron pen to fill in all the missing details (windows, etc). I also am not a fan of the blueish-grey color they used for the hull, even though it was much better at blocking light bleed.

Overall, I love them all...but this is actually the ship I find myself admiring (ummm...playing with) the most!

I can imagine the Diamond Select folks hauling out piles of leftover Enterprises to folks in the factory and telling them, "Take this bright orange spray paint and just go crazy!"
