Generational ship question

According to the article, it is a median minimum viable number of 4169 individuals. Interesting.

I thought it would have been at least in the 5 digits and not a little over 4000.

What i'm interested in now however is if this number also calculated human behaviour? I guess not since it talks about general biology and doesn't count social behaviour and/or laws into the fact (and especially human technological repoduction possibilities).

So i guess if one would like to establish a selfpopulating group of people according to human society it would have to be in the 5 digits to account for most human quirks as opposed to animals who breed almost no matter what.

Me and someone else theorized it would take at least 100 people to start with and yes test would be done to make sure the best breeding possible.

For example, by selecting your population from such diverse backgrounds as professional female beach volleyball players, Victoria's Secret underwear models, Sports Illustrated swimsuit models, and models from The Gap, Neiman Marcus, and Fredricks of Hollywood, along with a bunch of regular beer swilling goobers for them to mate with, you should have a viable genetic population to work with.
I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there.

I would also recommend a ratio of, say, ten females to each male. Of course, that would necessitate the abandonment of the so called monogamous sexual relationship, as far as men were concerned. But it is a sacrifice required for the future of the human race! ;)
Sometimes one has to make the supreme sacrifice.
