I’m suddenly imagining if Picard had been made to wear a similar silver catsuit after being Locutus. That would have certainly spiced up TNG’s fourth season…

If anyone wanted to edit Lucille Ball into a TOS episode via old audio recordings, there's one less hurdle than you'd think; two episodes mention the name Spock (in the context of Dr. (Benjamin) Spock): "Nursery School", (in which Lucy and Ricky are debating whether to send Little Ricky to nursery school and Dr. Spock's book is cited) and "Little Ricky's School Pageant" (where Lucy calls Ricky a "a regular Cuban Dr. Spock" after he tells her that it's more important for Little Ricky to learn to cooperate with others than to get a big part in the play.)

On the other hand, it might be more forgiving on the actors. Churning out 26 45-minute episodes each year for 7 years straight sounds pretty exhausting to me.

Indeed, yes. The stress of the TV production schedule is the biggest reason why I'm not so harsh about 10 episode seasons. These are people who really don't want to burn out in a daily grind and give their best to the art. So, why should I want them to nearly kill themselves in the name of my entertainment? Seems profoundly unfair.

How many of these actors take advantage of their off time to counteract the grind as opposed to actors that look for more work during their off time and, thus, continue the same grind as if they were still making a 16, 21, or 26 episodes a season series?

Is 10 episodes plus 4 to 6 guest roles really preferred to a 16 episode season?

I'd say yes, but that's me. Diversity of roles can be part of that recovery since it's not all them on the same set.

No doubt other actors feel differently. But, reading from Nimoy, to Samuel L Jackson and others who consider themselves fortunate to be able to act as a living, I can also see why looking for other work is also a goal. Actors don't know what will work or not in terms of popularity.
