General Trek Questions and Observations

What ship?

She could shapeshift into the prison warden or one of the other officials there and call for a Klingon ship to come to the planet. She could say she needs to go back to Qonos for some important thing. Then when she comes aboard the ship she could kill everyone on the ship and use her smarts to get out of Klingon space.

This is assumes a lot. One it assumes there even is a ship. The prison probably gets prisoners by being beamed in and walked to the prison itself. If they die, they die. Two, communications with Qonos are probably limited since they don't want an uprising. Three, prison personnel are probably not rotated all that often. The Klingons won't care.

The options are limited, and this even assumes that the shapeshifter can think quickly enough on their feet and not get caught, or be monitored some other way.

Plus it'd be one thing for her to look and sound like the warden but she wouldn't know code phrases or challenge responses.

Not to be overly negative, but there have been times in my own life—this week for example—where I DIDN’T want to watch the new Trek episode (just now getting to it) because when I’ve been having financial difficulties and other life events, I’ll watch a bright future where those issues AREN’T a problem for people anymore, and my heart almost aches with the desire for a future that I’ll never see. Granted, they have issues, but life on earth in the Trek universe is just….we could come so much closer to that now, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon short of a First Contact like event….

Sometimes I need Trek for escape, but sometimes the contrast with current day life is just unbelievably frustrating.

I usually don't do the escapist route with Trek. It no longer has that future focus I found as a younger man.

I find more optimism working with kids.

Maybe I just need to get out of my awful corporate job and do something more meaningful.

Maybe it's just me but I never got into the idea of escapism. I just call it entertainment

For me it literally is sometimes. I have some pretty severe mental illnesses, and life can be more than overwhelming at times, so a lot of times entertainment is something I need to just spend time in another world for a bit.

Or, find opportunities for meaningful activities inside and outside your job.

I'm not saying that it is easy. I struggle with depression and anxiety regularly regardless of my work. I fight, and squabble with family and co-workers and myself. But, when I look at what I value and put my effort in to it, rather than focusing on my past mistakes or future problems or current stressors, I can make a difference. It can be kindness to cashier, holding a door, helping a neighbor or just waving.

Little things become big.

Aww, that's rough. And I get what you mean. I like to be distracted sometimes too from what's going on in my life

My friend, it's gonna be OK. You're gonna be OK. Hang in there!

As I wait patiently for the new streaming Trek to eventually make it to 'normal' television, I have one major concern.
The variable lengths of the episodes.
They're a nightmare. However will a broadcast channel manage to sort out what to cut in order to fit some of them into an hour including adverts? The stories could end up making as much sense as the original series did when dubbed into German in the 1970s...

edit - 2 major concerns. Am I even going to live that long????? :)

The issue with broadcast standard is not every episode's story can be restricted or extended to 60 minutes

Hence, the elegant solution of streaming episodes of variable length.

Here's a question... which normally non-Starfleet character rocked the Starfleet uniform the hardest?

A. Wesley Crusher (TNG season 4), red uniform.
B. Seven of Nine (As seen in "Relativity"), blue uniform.
C. Kira Nerys (final DS9 arc), gray uniform.
D. Neelix (assorted Voyager episodes), gold uniform.
