General Trek Questions and Observations

I'm pretty sure he showed up on the set of 'This Side of Paradise' because his wife was in it and he wanted to make sure Nimoy was nice to her or something.

If I had Mr. Death Wish's wife with me, I'd treat her real respectfully.

My Star Trek episodes watch count as of 3/31/22 is 825.

80 TOS
22 TAS
176 TNG
173 DS9
168 VOY
97 ENT
55 DISC
10 SHORT
20 LD
15 PIC
9 PRO

I caught up on the bolded over the past three months. Glad to be back.

I'm about 60-70 episodes short of a full set, and all of them are Voyager stories. But I'm working on them.
Right on. Voyager's a great show to get through for the first time. I've been rewatching some episodes and really enjoying them again.

Just saw this Discovery 3 teaser: "If we hadn't made the Jump, all organic life in the universe would have ended."

My first reaction: Sure. Obviously they can't get worked up over any lesser threat, say, one that only ends all organic life in this galaxy.

Go big or, er, go to the 32nd century?

If USS Voyager was a Chysler Voyager...
* Tom Paris would be driving.
* Janeway would be in the passenger seat barking orders at him where to go.
* Neelix would be next to Tuvok in the middle seat and repeatedly poking him.
* Tuvok would be looking annoyed and trying to ignore Neelix.
* Chakotay would be asleep in the rear seat.
* B'Elanna and Seven would be in the rear seat. The former would be trying to throttle the latter.
* The EMH would be your friendly holographic OnStar.
* Kes would have been left by the side of the road, having been chucked off to make room for Seven.
* And Harry would have wound up crunched under the wheels.

They’d drag Harry along in a battered little wooden trailer with rackety wheels. He’d sit by himself inside, waving a tiny UFP flag while crying.

That's Joe Carey. After riding 99.5% of the way there, his trailer disintegrates into a cloud of splinters and debris, and he winds up bouncing down the freeway sans his head. Janeway nonchalantly tells Paris to keep going.

Eternal Ensign or not, Harry Kim is one of my favourite Star Trek characters. A real underdog. He not only survived the destruction of Voyager in 'Deadlock', but also saved Voyager from destruction in 'Timeless'.

I'm actually one of Mr. Kim's fiercest advocates, along with other similarly shafted characters. Actually had to tone it down because several other members complained about it.

And Jeffrey Combs would play the Chrysler Voyager.

That’s a shame. Every character deserves a champion and sticking up for the underdog is always good. I hope you didn’t take my comment about your Harry love the other day as anything but the joke it was intended as.

It's not just him. I've advocated for Data (saved the Federation from the Borg but didn't get a commander's pip in 25 frickin' years), Travis Mayweather (most competent member of NX01's crew, still stuck at ensign), and even Brad Boimler (too lazy to do a spoiler tag). Asian, black, golden-eyed, or purple-haired, if they got shafted, I got their back.

I'm sure it's been thought of before, but I'd love for an alternate reality episode of one of these Star Treks to be where Star Trek is a fictional thing and our heroes are considered cosplayers. Some of them could even meet their own counterparts. Everybody would be confuzzled.

Doing something with it that Futurama and Galaxy Quest didn't already do very well and balancing the tone so that you're not undermining your entire fictional universe would be pretty tricky.
