General Trek Questions and Observations

Well… as reasonable, rational, and well thought-out as that opinion is….
I'm just astonished that he knew the name of our cribbage club, the PEGBOYS. We get together, have a few beers to loosen up, grab that long slab of hard wood, and peg each other's holes every Saturday night. That wholesome game is what he meant by pegging, right? Right?

...Is there a chance that there be a future ST series that is NOT F**KED UP by this Kurtzman a-hole??? ...Just asking.(How long will this remain up before one of his PEGBOYS removes it, and bans me?)

Great news for you. I found this earlier from a 2020 post. The author seems trustworthy.

There is a rumor going around that because of various reasons, Viacom/CBS might sell The Trek franchise. That would mean no more "Discovery". or "Picard". It almos might mean that Kurtzman would lose his job.

Lately, I've been wondering what would happen if the assorted Trek crews had a "Hunger Games" style battle... bows and melee weapons only, only one survivor permitted.

TOS: The six humans would ally against Spock, knowing he was the most dangerous, and with their assorted clubs and blades would probably defeat him, though a couple of them would also drop. Chekhov is young and Uhura is female, McCoy is a healer. Scotty is a decent brawler, as is Kirk, but I think if Sulu got hit hands on a rapier, he'd win in a walk.

TNG: Data is super strong and indestructible by normal means. He took 50 9mm bullets to the chest and just kept coming in First Contact. He demolishes everyone in under 30 seconds.

DS9: Since no weapons that can actually hurt him are allowed, Odo thrashes the rest of the group, impaling half of them in the bloodbath and turning into a falcon to hunt down the rest.

VOY: This one could be interesting. The closest thing to an invulnerable character is the sawbones (we assume his ethical subroutines are deleted), but one bat'leth through the emitter and he fizzles out of existence. With Janeway's badazzery, Kes's telekinesis, Seven's superior strength and coordination, Tuvok's Vulcan martial training, and even Harry's inability to stay dead, this one is too close to call. Only thing we know is that Neelix lasts about five seconds.

ENT: T'Pol, because most of the male characters will be too busy lusting after her to kill her. Phlox's face-inflating ability won't do him much good here.

LD: While Mariner's weapon mastery will make her very dangerous, Shaxx is equally formidable, and I wouldn't count out the first officer either. I'd probably give the best odds to Mariner because of her greater charisma, she could secure the most allies.

PRO: There will be no winner, because Murf isn't violent, and cannot be destroyed.

Something I've been wondering...
I had the idea that the Holodeck would be interesting to study a simulation of what happened, for example, in Pompeii during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius (or any other distaste with more documentation for a more authentic simulation)...except that with a holodeck where you can touch/smell/feel things that would be deadly.

Do you think for studies like that, the holodeck would have a mode where the holograms are purely visual, without any of the other stuff that could end up deadly?

No Picard?

Well, we know from TNG there are 'safety protocols' that can be engaged or disengaged. We know from These are the Voyages (ENT) that the ENT-D holodecks have an 'objective mode', where the viewer doesn't interact, just watch. From Phage we know that the EMH can alter his magnetic containment fields to either appear as material or immaterial. So yes, they probably also have the combination of these, which seems to be essentially what you want.

If they're allowed to use bows then Troi would take down Data and win.

I think we've seen this episode, and Mariner beat Mariner.

Yeah the disaster scenario was just the first one I remembered. Similar application would be simulating the bottom of the ocean for people to walk around on, with holographic fishes and such.
Or simulating the surface of an uninhabitable planet, or an atmospheric layer of a gas giant and such.
