Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

One interesting observation...the 3-year renewable deal that has kept Star Trek Discovery in perpetual profit since its licensing deal for Netflix will be over after season 3. Season 4 is a given, it starts filming in October barring any COVID delays. This is the perfect time for ViacomCBS to launch it's global Paramount+ service, but it also means Discovery will need to continue to perform at as high a level as it has been, potentially making it more vulnerable.

Of interest to me is this...
Season three introduces us to some new characters and new actors. The biggest one would be Book; can you talk about what it’s like working with David?

David fell into it so easily and he’s very user-friendly and there’s great chemistry between he and Sonequa. He’s got a wonderful on-set demeanor. He’s funny. He’s physical. He’s prepared. He’s gorgeous. He’s powerful. He works hard, he’s got a great heart. He’s a movie star, even with that damn cat on his ship, which is our least favorite new actor.

I think that the stars that they’ve cast as season-long guest stars, they’ve just batted 1000. With Jason [Isaacs in season one] and Anson [Mount in season two]. And now David. It’s really impressive.

Are Book and Grudge only going to be there for one season?

I hope they at least keep one of them around... :)

Despite the spoiler warning in the thread, I wish I hadn't read this.

Unfortunately, it does fit the pattern. But I was hoping it wouldn't. Except Book isn't the Captain. So far, both of Discovery's guest-regulars were Captains.

Frakes can always be counted on some mini spoilers, like these:
First episode is only Burnham and Book.
Second episode is the rest of the Discovery characters.
Third episode is the reunion.

Frakes directed the 3rd episode. Tunde directed the first 2 in Iceland.

That is an excellent stylistic choice. One of the things Discovery has really been missing is episodes told from a distinctive POV or frame, which can really help give individual episodes their own feel even if they are part of a greater serialized arc.
