Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I have to say I really don't hate the 32nd century world. I do wish we got to explore it a bit more. I guess we will get the chance in SFA.
Same. It's been underdeveloped in favour of fast-paced storylines, so it would be great to slow it down a little and get our bearings.

Although, I'm still expecting motorcycle chases and warp-tunnel ship-surfing to absorb a lot of it's screen time, but I'll take it for a bit more knowledge of the era.

Yuss! Just concluded watching seasons 4 and 5!

Really enjoyed it, and particularity enjoyed the final season, and wrap-up!

Has taken me a day and an age, but got there eventually!

I’m interested to see how much has been setup for the Academy series, re: Tilly - and maybe Rayner?

And maybe even Kovich /
Agent Daniels!

I actually kind of liked the last speech. In a franchise filled with mediocre soliloquy (Picard, are you listening), I thought this one was pretty rousing...especially after what Burnham had seen (MU) and been through since the mutiny.
Agreed, Michael's speeches are the most impassioned since early tng/Picard.

I've figured we've needed one for a while, so I'm starting it up! Anything goes. Especially Discovery.

I'm looking at getting a video projector. I'd say I've wanted to do this for years but that's a lie. I've wanted to do it for decades. I don't care how big the TV is, nothing beats watching something up against an entire wall.

I'd love to see Discovery on the Big Screen and this is how I'll make it happen. Some other stuff I want to see on the big screen too that I normally wouldn't be able to. But this was the Big Push.

Plus I went over to a friend's house last summer, he has a projector, and a bunch of us watched Raiders of the Lost Ark on it. Great times. Until the mosquitoes decided to join us.
How did this go? My brain tells me that projectors are inferior quality but I'm sure strides have been made since I last saw one in action.

I bought a projector, it's 720p, and it works because I have it set up in my living room, so the image isn't projecting very far. I've invited friends over and we've watched movies on it. And it's been fine. You have to make sure there's no light in the room you have the projector on in, because the more light there is, the hazier the image. The darker, the sharper. I mainly watch stuff at night, so no problem, but I also have curtains that prevent sunlight from getting through if I want to use the projector during the daytime.

I have another projector, also 720p, in my bedroom, so I watch something from the projector while in bed. It's not DSC, but one time I laid the projector in that room on the floor, the image projected onto the ceiling wall, and I watched "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" that way. It's one of the trippy-est episodes of TOS ever and it worked like a charm.

When I'm editing, because I'm a video editor, I'll hook the computer up the projector in the living room and I'll edit on the projector. How things look on a projector is a bit different from how it would look on a computer monitor, so that's helped me out in a few spots so there won't be any surprises when I show an audience something I did. So, it's had practical uses for me as well.

You're NOT going to get the same image quality as you would if you went to a theater, but I still prefer a projector over some ridiculous over-sized 50-to-70-inch TV monitor. No offense to anyone who has one. But a projector is so much easier to move around and carry around. The image it projects is the equivalent of a 200-inch TV from the distance I have it.

A projection screen isn't necessary if you have a wall that's an entirely clear and is a bright color. White is the best, but beige and baby blue work surprisingly well. A beige wall makes the image appear a lot warmer, baby blue makes it look cooler. I prefer warmer visuals. But, right now, in my living room, I have the main projector I use pointed to a white wall. If you have wallpaper or a dark color, forget it. You need to buy a projector screen. I have one for whenever I have to take my projector to a different location.

What Star Trek have I watched on the projector? TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, the movies, DSC, PIC, and SNW. All of it looks good on there. If you have DVDs or Blu-Rays for DS9 and VOY, they look better than if you're watching through Streaming.

I would prefer 4K projectors, and only bought 720p because I'm not made of money. Even the 1080p projectors were expensive at the time I was buying them. Though I'll probably upgrade to 4K by the end of the decade. That's what I'm planning. I'm just waiting for both the prices to come down far enough and for me to make more money.

Glad you enjoy it. I'll stick with my 65" 4k.
