This week's choice, from a suggestion, is actor James "Jim" Patrick Caviezel. He was born on September 26, 1968 in Mount Vernon, Washington. He was one of five children in a close-knit Catholic family.
(bio from IMDB)
As a youngster, Jim was described as being "very intense." His two main interests growing up were sports and religion. He was athletically gifted on the basketball court and dreamed of someday playing in the NBA. A foot injury put an end to Jim's basketball career and his dreams of playing in the NBA. Shortly after his, he turned his focus toward acting.

In 1990, he auditioned for a part in the independent film My Own Private Idaho (1991). He won a very small role as a foreign airline clerk after he convinced casting agents that he was a recent Italian immigrant.

The following year, Jim moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a waiter between auditions. He landed small roles in Diggstown (1992) and Wyatt Earp (1994) and guest starring roles on "The Wonder Years" (1988) and "Murder, She Wrote" (1984).

He continued to go relatively unnoticed in small roles and even thought about quitting acting until 1998 when he received critical recognition for his role as idealist Private Witt in The Thin Red Line (1998). The following year, he gained further recognition with roles in Ride with the Devil (1999) and Frequency (2000). In 2001, his role as Jennifer Lopez's love interest in Angel Eyes (2001) helped to establish him as a versatile actor and leading man.

It wasn't until 2002 that Jim made his strong religious beliefs known. While filming High Crimes (2002), he refused to do any sex scenes because it conflicted with his strong Catholic faith. It was also around this time when he was chosen by Mel Gibson to star as Jesus Christ in the upcoming, controversial film The Passion of the Christ (2004). The film went on to become one of the highest grossing movies of all-time and made Jim a household name. He has since starred in science-fiction films, such as The Final Cut (2004), the time-travel drama, Deja Vu (2006), and the upcoming Outlander. He was also recently cast to play Number 6 in the upcoming remake of "The Prisoner."

In 2004, People Magazine listed him as one of the world's "most beautiful people."

Off screen, Jim lives with his wife, Kerri, and their adopted Chinese son, Bo.

Well, he DOES have that Charlton Heston nose going for him (or appears to, in a couple of those photos - I've never seen a single one of those films), but other than that? Meh.

Thumbs sideways.

I give him a thumbs sideways as well. He's interesting, but I can't say I care one way or another.

Up. Very purdy. :D

I'll forgive him for Mel's Jesus-freak thing. Looking forward to that Prisoner remake; he's an interesting choice for the lead.

Sure, I'd give him a whirl. Especially if he dressed up like Jesus.

Ewwwww! :rommie: But you may be SOL...

:klingon:

Hell no. The religion thing killed any hormonal surges that may have been starting.

"Your name is Kal-El. You are the only survivor of the planet Krypton. Even though you've been raised as a human, you are not one of them. You have great powers, only some of which you have as yet discovered."

We Catholics aren't that bad, y'know. :p (Cretins like Mel Gibson and his father are the exceptions that test the rule.)

As for this week's bloke...not sure. I've never seen him in anything. Some of the pics are okay, but overall... I'll go with sideways.

Thumbs up. LOVED him in Frequency and High Crimes. :bolian:

Oh DAK, don't let his religion bother you...you're not gonna marry him ya know. ;)

Fair enough, DAK. Just don't be lumping us all in the negative boat. I might get annoyed. :p ;)

I think I need analysis, they revved 'em right up for me! ETA: I was thinking about the images, not his beliefs (that's probably worse, right?)

Thumbs up. He's made in the image of those old time matinee idols I grew up on, so yeah, he does it for me.

Yeah, I can't reconcile the concepts of "religion" and "sexy." Plus, he's kind of generic. Thumbs Down. :(

I thought he was great in Thin Red Line and that pic from Deja Vu is gorgeous! Thumbs up here!

Well, I do know, I was raised Catholic. :p

Fled as soon as I could and never looked back.
Agree with you. Looked at the pictures and (with the exception of Jesus) was going to give the thumbs up. Went back and read the profile and recoiled with the mention of Catholicism. I think all escapees do. I've been around 'very intense' Catholics. Its codewords for 'Hes a bit of a nutter really.'

So sideways from me.

What was a devout Catholic doing auditioning for My Own Private Idaho?

I havent seen him in anything myself. When i started looking at the pics i went from yeah, to meh, to nah. So nada it is.

Fair enough, DAK. Just don't be lumping us all in the negative boat.
I try not to OZ. Really I do.

I might get annoyed. :p ;)
Oh noes! :p

Yep, escapees is a good term. My main requirement for a life partner (when I was still looking) was "no religion". Top of the list, non-negotiable, no exceptions. Childhood indoctrination really can take a toll.
