Gears of War 3 beta

Whelp, haven't really been playing games much but I got caught up in the hype and got into the GoW3 beta. (There are a couple of ways to "trick" your way in early if you're so inclined).

It looks nice and it certainly feels like the dedicated servers are helping things out a little (and they added an arbitrary ranking system just for kicks).

But I think I'm too old to play the "hunt the weapon" type of shooter. And my reflexes are way too slow to play against people who are masters with the shotgun.

That said, I think I'm moderately excited by the game, which is more than I would have said yesterday. Will I day one this sucker? Unless there's some random CE only bonus, probably not.

I initially hated GoW because I couldn't stand TPS. I played my roommates GoW 1 for an hour or two and couldn't understand the cover system or the third person view. I was equally bored/frustrated when GoW 2 came out and he bought it and forced me to do co-op with him and we beat it that night. I had no desire to ever play these games again.

Now, a few years later, I've recently purchased GoW 1 and 2 because the trailer for 3 got me interested in it. It is now on my christmas wish list. I can't wait until the semester is done so I can go home and play these games.

I was the same way. I bought GOW1 and hated it and traded it in the next day after only playing one level. A year later I was bored and saw it was cheap and bought it again and fell in love with it so much that I went out and bought GOW2 when it came out and I loved it also. I hope GOW3 is just as good.

I loved Gears of War 1 and played the shit out of it online. I was pretty good at it too. Then when part 2 came out I enjoyed the single player, but the multiplayer matchmaking was completely broken. I couldn't get into games. Eventually they fixed it and I tried to get into it... but I was just HORRIBLE.

I have never been this bad at any online shooter ever. I was literally getting kicked out of 'social' matches for being so terrible. I'd get maybe 3 kills over the course of an hour... and one of those would be a guy who went AFK. I lose every single shotgun spam showdown. I really don't understand it.

I'm looking forward to Gears of War 3 for the single player, but I have no interest in the beta or final multiplayer product. It's a game that has seemingly left me behind

Hah, yeah, the game is still mostly rolling around and shooting people with the shotgun. Can't really play that way now for the most part.
