IESB Exclusive: Another Gary Added to the Cast of IRON MAN 2 Written by IESB Staff Tuesday, 07 April 2009
First, Garry Shandling was added to the cast of IRON MAN 2 alongside Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle. Now, Gary Oldman has been spotted on the set in Los Angeles.

Earlier today we revealed Garry Shandling as Senator Stern in the film from our on set tipster. Now, he's delivered us news of another Gary. Oldman seems to be making a crossover from the Warner Bros./DC Batman and Harry Potter franchises to a Marvel Studios franchise.
Interesting. Oldman has been staying away from villain characters as of late until he was cast as the post-apocalyptic baddie in Book of Eli with Denzel Washington. What will he bring to the IRON MAN 2 cast?

We don't have any character confirmation, but we are hearing he could possibly be Howard Stark, father to Tony, previously rumored to be played by Tim Robbins. But that role is also rumored to be the one filled by Mad Men's John Slattery, who I am HUGE fan of.
It must be a short time on set considering he is in the middle of shooting Book of Eli in New Mexico.
We've reached out to the studio for comment but have yet to hear back.
We shall see!

I have to wonder how Warners/DC will react to Oldman being in another comic book franchise. The last time an actor did that was James Marsden after he was Scott in the X-Men films at Fox he headed over to WB for Superman Returns. And we all know what happend to Scott in the next film, it was curtains for him in the first 20!
First Gary Shandling and now Oldman? what the heck's going on?

UPDATE: Gary Oldman's manager, Douglas Urbanski, posted the following in our comments:

"Mr. Oldman did not visit the set of Iron Man and there are currently no plans for him to appear in the film."

He's still Oldman - just not Stark's Old Man.

(I'll get me coat ...)

I rewatched IM on DVD over the weekend and was looking at the pics of Howard Stark. I think Pierce Brosnan would physically be a better subsitute for the original actor than Tim Robbins, even if Robbins is a better actor. Slattery would be interesting though.

Funny if with all the fanboy buzz for fellow Mad Man Jon Hamm to play a superhero (Some superhero. Any superhero!), it's his onscreen boss who ends up playing dad to one ...
